I am not debating the issue but I have lived and worked in the NYC metro and the Orlando metro. So I believe I know what I am talking about. But lets just leave it at that, the south is for you and the north is for me. Problem solved. Good luck on your move. If you need help looking for a legal job in Orlando let me know.

If you like to fight traffic jams, strap on a suit and have to get ready early in the morning every day, let some guy boss you around, peel snow off your windows and slide all over the road, then by all means Chicago, New York, Boston, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis are great places for you.
If you like laid back people, most jobs that don't require you to strap on a suit and tie, great weather, beaches, flexible working hours, jobs that do not have crazy accountability for workloads placed on their employees, etc. then by all means come down to Florida. Most of those people up there lost their 401ks and retirements anyway. So what good did that do them? I could have went on a nice cruise with that money.

You know Daily I was just in the middle of DMing you because I don't want to fight and you sent this - so thank you and I mean that genuinely. You may not be in the same situation I am with my kids and husband. You may make a lot more money than I do and could enjoy things a bit. However, what I'm looking to give my boys can not be had here regardless of the money. Not worse here, not better there, just different and right now I'm ready for different. I don't think it is going to be peaches and cream though, I've got a pretty good head on my shoulders, I'll be fine. Don't worry, I'm all NY and I will find my way - LOL. I am not going to Orlando - I didn't like it there. I liked most of Broward County, I don't know if I'll love living there, but we shall see, I will be on here to let you guys know. Hopefully, I will not be complaining LOL.

Ben - I couldn't even respond to this intelligently (the above posters comment), I wasn't sure if he was kidding. If I'm reading this correctly, I would make the assumption that all workers in Florida are lazy - LOL. I know this is not the case, I hope!

Great. Once I decide to come there, then I read all these comments and now I am worried. I have a 6 year old daughter who will be in 2nd grade next year. Are the schools really that bad? She is a very polite shy little girl. Am I a bad mom for bringing her there?

Please dont question your parenting skills because you want or need to move to florida....its only a few people's opinion, and this is what I hate most about some people...Chris do your homework, call the schools you are interested in, try to make a few visits and talk to people who actually send their kids to that particular school, I know dh and I have and everyone we have spoken to has been very happy with thier childrens education...good luck

Chris, where in Florida are you moving and don't be silly, you are not a bad mom for wanting a change. Your not moving from Park Ave to the Pork and Beans projects in Miami LOL. You will be fine, as Berry said do your homework on every area in question.

I am by no means an expert on this subject......but please be leery on basing huge live decisions on what you read on a forum.
You will read generalized statements here....sweeping ones that may or may not apply to your situation. you also do not know the situation of the poster, or how credible their views are.
Generally, I'm told schools in Florida are not as highly rated as schools up north. BUT, does that mean you cannot find a good school in Florida? Of course not. Does that mean that all kids growing up in Florida are dumb and destined to menial jobs? Of course not.
Know that Florida is a BIG state, and places can vary widely in the space of a few miles or streets.
Do your research, focus on an area, visit, check out neighborhoods, schools, (there are good school rating websites out there, like Great Schools - Public and Private School Ratings, Reviews and Parent Community I think), etc.etc.
If you decide on making the jump, rent first for a year or so. Prices will still be low for the next few years I'd wager.
Good luck.......know that whenever reading anything here you NEED to have a salt shaker next to your computer for those grains of salt.......

LOL - that was good - I really like your optomism - you tell the bad side as well as the good side without trying to drive in what the bad points are allowing people to make their own assessment.
