Default Do you feel the schools get carried away with "dress code"

It seems as if this time every year one of my kids gets in trouble for going against the "dress code". I can understand imposing, certain rules, when the kids reach middle school or even high school but grade school, give me a break. Geeze we live in Florida it gets hot. What do they want them to wear long sleeve shirts and pants.

Better to sweat a bit than to be considered something you're not, get what I mean?

Tell your kids to tough it out and dress properly.

I doubt anybody is expecting them to do a three mile run in a dress.

Where in FL do you live that appropriate length shorts and skirts are not appropriate? Around here (Broward) there are NO elementary schools where the kids are forced to wear long pants and long sleeves on a daily basis. What is your child wearing that is such a problem? Tank tops? Short shorts? That kind of stuff is not appropriate in school at any age.

No, are you saying that a young girl in 4th grade who wears a tank top is looking for something? Wow wheres your mind.

Tell your kids to tough it out and dress properly.
My kids do dress propertly. Whats wrong with wearing a Bon Jovi tee shirt?

1- You never divulged what grade your kids were in.

2- If you think it is proper for your kids to dress like that Jon Benney Ramsey girl, then think again.

3- If you dress like a prostitute you'll be viewed as one. What are they calling those girls these days? Prostitots? Those pre-teen girls who dress like they're 20 year old Vegas street walkers...

No I would never let my kids wear those daisy duke shorts at school or any where else.

Well, I've seen the shorts that young girls (even high school age) wear today and they are SHORT shorts (like mini shorts). We might be living in 2009, but clothes like that and low-cut tops should NOT be allowed at school. IMO, that is. Thank God we (wife/I) don't have to worry about those pre-teen and teenage things......don't have kids that age (we are in our early 60's). But, what some young girls wear today (even the girls in their 20's/30's and even 40's)......just hate to go there!!

I did say grade school. I never said Jon Bonet Ramsey. There are some young girls who do dress inappropriate, I agree, but to classify someone as a prostitute for wearing a tank top and shorts then I guess Florida is filled with tons of them.

I agree... I can't believe parents let their children wear them. Some of the shirts that these young girls wear that just accentuate the chest area is ridiculous. Geeze when I was growing up we were embarrassed to show what we had.lol
