We have a sanbox with a cover and the bugs still get in. Mostly rollie pollies. And I dont know how they did it, but occasionally, the cats do use it as a litter box. Cats are everywhere here. You'll also find a lot of dogs roaming around without leashes. No one in my neighbor has a decent lawn. The sun frys the grass and we have water restictions here. Most peoples lawns are full of sandspurs(ouch for the little ones) weeds and fire ants. If you want your kids to play in the sand, take them to a beach. Wear plenty of sunscreen, bring lots of water and buy a few beach umbrellas. oh, and dont forget the bug spray.

Thanks everyone.
Ya know, I am just worried that my kids wont be able to play outside the way that they do now. They love to run around in the yard & be on thier swingset without thier shoes on, play in the sanbox and take a dip in the pool. I have three under 5 yrs old and we usually spend our days in the yard because it is hard for me to take them out to the beach or pool by myself.

Well, they can certainly play on the swingset WITH thier shoes on.... Minor adjustment...

beachin01930 is on a distinguished road
Leave your sandbox at home.

In Florida, I wouldn't dream of having a sandbox for my little ones. Fire ants are the norm here.......... Also, don't let them go outside and play without sneakers and socks on.

Above all else, please make sure you treat and watch your lawn carefully.

Red ants hurt when they bite. They also are hard to get rid of.
