sandboxes in FL??
OK - I know this is probably a silly question, BUT, with all of this bug and spider talk, it got me to thinking. Do children generally play in sandboxes in florida, or would it be considered a magnet for more bugs and stuff. My kids love the sandbox and I was wondering if I should be getting rid of it or taking it with me.

No, no sandboxes. No beaches either. All the sand has been carted away. Just bugs, bugs, everywhere. Kidding. Bring your sandbox. The biggest thing you need to protect your sandbox against is cats, same as anywhere.

We have one of those sandboxes that looks like a turtle - it has a cover so it is great keeping out bugs and unwanted things. It was also pretty cheap and in the summer we fill it with water for my 2 year old.

We had a sandbox when I was little. My dad made it himself with a nice roof over it to shield it from the sun. I don't recall having any problems with creatures in the sandbox!

LOL... Sandbox has to be self-contained and have a cover, otherwise yes, bugs will get in it.....

to tell you the truth, I have not seen any sandboxes in my neighborhood. I don't know why? We moved from IL to FL, and did have a sandbox in IL. I think maybe because people have pools here and it gets too hot in the summertime to play in a sandbox. There's also fire ants that might take up residence in your sand box. We had a bag of mulch in the garage we didn't use and a few months later we saw ants in it.

Trade the sandbox in for a pool.
