What a ridiculous statement! Tally is a little bigger than Gainesville. There are many similarities betwen the two. I have lived in both cities. Tally does have that feel that you are away from everything although there is no doubt that it is closer to some of the nicest beaches in the country. Personally, I prefer Gainesville because I can get to Orlando and Jax in 1 1/2 hours or less.
Gainesville is great for students, young families, and is starting to become very popular with retirees because of the Shands health system. If you are single and done with college than you may not like Gainesville. If you work in education, biotech, medicine then finding a job may not be as difficult. Both cities are islands of blue in a sea of red but the " rednecky" areas outside of Tally are straight out of Deliverance.

That may be true of Florida.

Gainesville is significantly smaller and more redneck than Tallahassee, in terms of population, area, infrastructure, jobs...in every category.
INCLUDING the surrounding area.

Gainesville has more redneck surrounding in terms of population, Tallahassee has more in the surrounding area in terms of area, you can get out of it if you like to other cities, not so much in Tallahassee, but not redneck for most within Tallahassee except the south and west side.

I think that's what I meant. There seemed to me to be a larger redneck population per square mile around Gainesville, whereas around Tallahassee you have a lot less density. But some kind of argument that the counties surrounding Tallahassee are somehow more redneck than those around Gainesville doesn't make much sense to me.
When I said Tallahasee was "many times bigger" I meant it in more than one respect - not just population. I don't know how someone could even just have a casual drive around these two cities and get the idea that Gainesville was even close in "size."

I've lived in both. With the exception of being closer to Tampa, Jax & Orlando - Tallahassee is much nicer than Gainesville in every possible way, IMO.

The outskirts of Tally are far more " rednecky" than G-ville. For God's sake, it is the panhandle. The truth is that it is much easier to escape G-ville. All you have to do is pick up a map to understand this concept.

Yeah, this concept is lost on quite a few people, it looks like.

Whatever. I guess you didn't spend much time in rural north Central Florida.
It's easier to escape Gainesville because it is SO MUCH SMALLER. All you have to do is pick up a map to understand this concept.

You still seem to be lost on the idea that Gainesville is within two hours of three major cities.
