Post Florida Favorite Sandwich

I believe that the cuban sandwich is the favorite one in Florida. I had the muffaletas, poorboys, and other subs but the cuban-sandwich is just superb.....

The sandwiches have a submarine-style layering of ham, roast pork, cheese, and pickle between a sliced length of Cuban bread. The key to a great, versus a good, Cuban Sandwich lies in the grilling. A great Cuban sandwich is grilled in a sandwich press (called a plancha) until the ham, pork, and pickles have warmed in their own steam. Cuban restaurants use a sandwich press, but you can substitute a waffle iron. These sandwiches use no mayonnaise, lettuce, onions, bell peppers, or tomatoes; however, butter and mustard are optional. Cuban sandwiches are sold hot (pressed) or cold (room temperature).

The recipe:

1 loaf Cuban bread*
Prepared yellow mustard
1/2 pound baked ham, thinly sliced
1/2 pound roast pork, thinly sliced
8 thin dill pickle slices
1/2 pound Swiss cheese, thinly sliced

* Italian or French bread may be substituted.

Default Yummy! Who makes the best?

The "Silver Ring" In Tampa used to consistently win the award. Who does in Miami? Do they have a contest?

Found some reference but the cuban Swich is not on the list....

You also might want to try a medianoche sandwich if you're seeking something a little sweeter.

INGREDIENTS:

* 1 loaf Sweet Cuban bread
* 10 slices Roast pork
* 10 slices Ham
* 10 slices Swiss cheese
* 10 slices Pickle
* Mustard to taste

PREPARATION:
Slice the bread down the middle and cover both sides with mustard, to taste. Layer the pork, ham and cheese on the bread and garnish with pickles.

If you have a sandwich press, place the sandwich in the greased press and cook it until the cheese melts.

If you do not have a sandwich press, you may fry the sandwich on a griddle by placing a large heavy object (such as a cast-iron skillet) on top of it.

Remove the sandwich and cut into pieces, as desired.

The best cuban sandwiches are found during Calle Ocho where you will see roast suckling pigs being used in place of that baked ham.

Yeeeow! ( thumbs way up icon )

However, I'll take our shrimp sandwiches over that on most days

Love Cuban sandwiches. Haven't found a great one in Jax yet, but have a place that is ok.

How about a blackened grouper sandwich? yum!

Default Cuban Sandwich

This is the favorite sandwich in Florida. Thanks for posting the way to make it. That is super!! My favorite place to eat a cuban sandwich is Florida Bakery in Columbus Drive.

Our Publix supermarket prepares very good subs... cost versus quality they out-performed the Subway, Firehouse and others....

My favorite Cuban is at Sandy's in Key West. Just the best there is!

I love a good ol' fried grouper sandwich though.
