Hey mbmouse, that hurts. You're kicking us where it hurts!! Hey, speaking of being invaded, what part of TN are you in? My hubby works for Publix and we're considering a move there (much like everyone else) because they are supposed to be opening stores in Cookeville and Crossville. We have a daughter who is visually impaired, so we're trying to find the best school system for her. She's not totally blind, but does need Braille. What part are you in? |

Broward Co
Purchased back in 1992 Taxes then: $1200 now: $2500 (with Save our homes and homestead) Insurance then: $600 now: $3,000 (With hurricane safe const. cert.) Flood ins then: $0 now: $300 (with elevation certificate) Currently (aggressively priced to sell) on market at $335 Moving for the old FL reasons of grandkids and family more than any dislike of the lush surroundings and walk outside and pick breakfast off the trees lifestyle. I agree that the elimination of property tax would be a big benefit, but an even bigger one would be reducing the tax and insurance burdens on businesses in the state. Encourage business into the state and a lot of the other problems with home ownership costs will sort themselves out. Remember that those insurance costs are offset for people moving from the northeast by reduced heating costs, not have to replace salt damaged cars, etc. Property tax in the NE can be as bad or worse than Florida. |

Thanks JJJ for starting this thread! This is probably, if not the most, useful thread I have run across in the Forums! I have been researching this info specifically to know where to relocate with my state. Facts are what we need, not opinions and posturing!
