Some professions that might not occur to people that are employed by PUBLIX are as follows: real estate agents, florists, engineers of all kinds, machinists, day care workers, accountants, attorneys, chefs, bakers, bank tellers, chemists, photographers, graphic artists and filmmakers.
Then there are the professions most recognized in the grocery business: office personnel, truck drivers, cashiers, baggers, custodians, forklift operators, stockers etc. Anyway, PUBLIX employs roughly 130,000 people.

As you say, Lakeland is the headquarters. When my daughter was looking for a Loss Prevention job, she found that Publix actually has a CORPORATE Loss Prevention Department. Not very many retail chains, let alone supermarkets, have that. Unfortunately, we are nowhere near there, but she did like the idea that perhaps she could have gotten into the corporate department as managment.
They do sound like a very good company to work for. Her friend is an Assistant Manager at a supermarket chain in NY. When we were looking at the salaries, her friend gets paid about half what they start people at for her position in Publix. Hell, the managers start at 6 figures. Cannot beat that.

Exactly right. And with the cost of living (real estate prices and taxes) being low in Polk County, a good number of people employed with Publix live *very well*. Throw in the dividend checks every June from the accumulating company stock and the Christmas bonuses...it's rather respectible all around.

They don't start off with 6 figure salaries. Asst. Department 40 - 45k , Department managers 60 - 65k , Asst store 70 - 75k & Store about 100k

YES!!!
I still love my Publix though. Anyone near Winter Park, FL, should check out the new Publix there. It's got a TON of unique and organic products...much more than the Greenwise section at a typical Publix, as well as a larger organic produce section. It's the biggest and best Publix I have ever seen. I will also add that employees of Publix are typically friendlier than any other supermarket I go to, including Fresh Market and Whole Foods.

I love my Publix on University Parkway in Sarasota - HUGE HUGE wine selection, a cooking school, a mini-Carrabas restaurant - it's the biggest and the best! I am so spoiled, we have great food shopping here, so i can't complain about not having something like Trader Joe's.

I agree. I am surprised there are no many of them here. Hopefully soon as they seem to be popping up everywhere. Is the publix with greenwsie different then without or they all have it? I just moved to FL so am not that familiar.

Not many cities in FL have the demographics that a place like Trader Joe's looks for. One reason why there are so few Whole Foods also.

^ I'm not sure about that. You're saying that Fresno, CA has *better* demographics than Tampa or Miami? TJ's is all over Massachusetts too. Several parts of Mass are similar to Tampa. Hell, there are several Mass residents down in FL....shouldn't that count for something! If TJs is in Atlanta, I have no idea why they aren't in Florida....
