Chain-wide, Costco actually has a very good employee relations record. Pay and benefits tend to be far better than Walmart/Sam's Club, and their employee turnover rate is about 1/3 the national average for grocers.

That article is from 2004. I also thing they may give general average figures that can vary greatly in different regions. South Florida is a completely isolated case when it comes to a lot of things. We can be very unique. That story focuses on Seattle a pretty different place from say Miami. Also the figures they site are from 2003 it says, even older then the write up.

My husband knew someone in South Florida that took a second job at Costco and was making $15 an hour to work in the cafeteria there. I would say that is pretty good, plus they do have good benefits.

That would be good. I was reading and it seems they start at $10.00 Your friend may have had something more to offer.

Not that I know of. He was a machinist by day. Maybe now, they are starting lower because work is hard to come by in FL. I'm sure there are plenty of applicants for every opening now.

Agree 100%, they almost killed one of my relatives once when they gave them the same medication twice. You have to be on top of those people and make sure they follow your requests, and I am not a demanding person, I can take crappy customer service anytime but not mistakes at a hospital.

I have 4 foodstores within 4 miles.

Publix
for water, breads, cold cuts and deserts.
Winn Dixie for meat and produce.
Food Lion for in and out stuff quick.
Walmart for butter, cereal, eggs, milk and cheese, frozen veggies, cookies, coffee, tea and other food items.

Publix and Winn-Dixie are the only stores around here. Both are disappointing. For vegetables I either grow my own on the roof, go to Krome Ave or in a pinch, Wal-Mart. Once a month I venture to Costco for meats or some groceries. Fish I get locally. The Publix I used to like was the old "Jet" style store with the huge neon front and extremely modern interior from the 60's. I still remember their round checkouts and paper bags with the storefront drawn on the front. Publix was closed Sunday morning for church too. Their stores since the 70's are ugly, and I avoid them as much as possible.

Do people here ever go to Farmers Markets? I went to one though I was not into it here in Delray area. It was so chaotic and did not really have things like cereal and such. Other then getting something from the pharmacy I think I am the only person who hates Costco though it is nice to hear about the jobs for people. I hate buying huge things to have to find storage or stick my hand in a tub of something. If you have a big family I can see it but even that often the price is not much cheaper.
Mango I thought though I have never gotten more money if something is wrong up for more that they are suppose to give you back extra plus the item reg price. That may not be in every state though. In my old hometown we have a place called Meijer that is 24 hours and similar to a Walmart but better. It has nicer produce and even homegoods. I think they are in a few states only but that would be nice here. They have good deals on things and their own brand as well

I go to Farmers Markets now and then but unless you get there early, the veggies and fruits are boiling in the hot Florida sun. I've bought tomatoes that turned bad the next day probably due to the high temp and the sun.
