Got a job in Lakeland, Florida but I keep hearing bad things about how it is boring and ghetto out there. Where would be a ideal place to move.. I am 24 and have another 24 year old roommate both males and we go out every now and then to bars and clubs.

I want a nice area that isnt slummy or dull.

I live on the other side of Tampa, all I really know about Brandon is the mall area. I think your anticpated rent of 1100$ sounds reasonable! Check online real estate sites for more info. Good luck and look on the bright side Florida weather beats the heck out of Ohio's !!

We are also in Ohio and moving to Florida in a couple of months.

Being only 24 you need to really do your research.

Since you got a job in Lakeland you will need to be close to your work.

Others will chime in to offer you help about Brandon and other places.

You need to go down and look at several places in person and drive around the area of your choice before you rent.

Pictures and actual places sometimes do not match very well.

1100.00 you should be able to land a decent place for that price.

Having a savings and doing your research is the most important things you can do.

Lakeland has some very nice areas, but it is way more "Southern" than Tampa, which causes it to get a bad rap from some people. The biggest problem for two guys your age would be nightlife. I've never hung out in Lakeland at night, but I can't recall seeing many nightclubs or whatever.

Brandon is pure suburbia. You'll probably find yourself driving to Ybor, Hyde Park, Channelside, or wherever for nightlife, but it'll be an easier drive than if you were coming from Lakeland.

I'd say Lakeland is more known as a country bumpkin town, whether its good or bad its up to you. But I can promise you that the nightlife there isnt anything like you would like it to be, like a much larger city like Tampa or Orlando even.
