The weather was a bit overcast most days, but not terrible.......and one day it rained so hard that we had to pull over for a few minutes because we couldn't see in front of the car.
One of the best weather days was coming back towards Pensacola, crossing over the bridge from Destin (over a bay.) I really got to witness the unreal colors! We had to stop the car and take pictures. I felt like I was in the Caribbean!!! There was this most unusual green water surrounded by deeper, brillant blue colors. I was amazed.
We did not see the dune lakes, so we will have to make more time when we move there. But I appreciate the pictures you have posted. We mostly saw the little town like villages along the 30A, and weren't entirely sure where we were.
I wanted to get an idea of drive times to where possible employment would be for me. I think if I work in Pensacola, the area that I would like is Gulf Breeze. Not too far to commute each day.
I just can't tell you all how excited we are. Someday!!!!!!

Is this the bridge? http://www.city-data.com/picfilesv/picv20390.php
I did the same, "what the, what!" when I first crossed over.

In the summer there's a big slide out there and a boat that delivers ice cream!

Now that would be pretty funny to see, I think.
On-da-Beach, if you were in need of medical care, living in your area, which hospital would you choose to go to? Would you feel confident in the care you would receive?
2Bohemians.....you are also in that area, right? How about you? Where would you choose?
It just seems that major hospitals would be in Pensacola. So I stayed focused on surrounding areas to major hospitals for the area for choices to relocate. What do you think? I would love to not have much of a commute.

Sacred Heart (Pensacola and Santa Rosa Beach) has a good reputation as does Baptist, which has some interesting options if you want to work in one of their affiliate businesses (Andrews Institute does some cutting edge sports medicine) I'd avoid FWB Medical Center and Twin Cities Hospital- they're owned by Columbia HCA and seem to put profit over pateint care. FWB Medical Center almost got their Medicare/Medicaid certification yanked last year after a series of unfortunate events.

Beachmouse, thanks! I meant to ask you too, since you also live in the area (and I always love reading your posts as well.)
I have pretty much always driven 30-45 min to work, but I was thinking that if I want to make changes (like slow down and enjoy life ) that I want to NOT have to commute much of a distance. That's why I was leaning close to Pensacola. Living in Niceville, what's the largest hospital by you? Would you have to go into Pensacola to Sacred Heart or Baptist?

I'd pick Sacred Heart of Santa Rosa Beach for most midlevel hospital needs, and Sacred Heart-Pensacola or Baptist for very serious or very specialist care. Each is a strong hospital with different areas of strength. I just know too many people who have had things go horribly wrong when they shouldn't at FWB Medical Center that I can't feel confidence in them.

It's true and sad to say about Ft. Walton's hospital. I heard the same things. PCola's where they always life flight the big traumas.
