This is a quote from a Presidential Premier Awards winner and one the top real estate sales people in the entire US.

Florida population growth slows but still remains high 2008

“Job growth has been higher in Florida than the national average,” Smith says, adding that the largest increases in jobs during the past year have been in leisure and hospitality services, education and health service. “You also have to factor in Florida’s climate, with its relatively warm winters, which continues to attract people from the Northeast and Midwest from one year to the next.”

Although less significant than employment, retiree migration stands to become increasingly important in the future.

“Over the next 20 years as the baby boomers reach retirement age, the probability is high that many of them will want to move to Florida,” Smith says.

Other Interesting Florida Facts

Number of people who move to Florida each day - 1,000

Number of major commercial airports - 19

Number of international airports - 12

Number of deepwater ports - 14

Miles of sand beaches - 1,200

Miles of coastline - 1,800

Number of golf courses - more than 1,250
-Florida has more golf courses than any other state
-Palm Beach County has more golf courses than any other county in the country

Number of hotel rooms in Florida - more than 370,000

Number of campgrounds - 700 (100,000 campsites)

Number of people who camp in Florida each year - 6 million

**************

Florida has 67 counties, fifteen of which are among the fastest growing in the nation according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s report of the 100 fastest growing counties nationwide July 1, 2004 to July 1, 2005. This statistic includes the nation’s fastest growing county, Flagler County. The population of Florida retirement communities is growing rapidly, thanks in great part to the thousands of baby boomers moving into the state each year.

I have been telling people here that in 2011 when the largest group of boomers hit retirement age that they will have money and will be heading to warm weather, mainly to Florida. The stats above and other states on the net show this as well. Even congress knows this.

Amazon even has a new book you can purchase "Florida for Boomers".

Another article I read said that if the economy picks up and housing markets follow that many more people will be selling homes in the rust belt and will be moving to warmer weather.

Cool! I dont believe it all (1000 ppl are not moving here per day), but I'll sell my house to one of them if they want to buy it!

Where are these people going to work. Florida continues to be one of the leaders in job losses, only much bigger California has lost more jobs.

Florida unemployment rate hits 9.4 percent - Business - MiamiHerald.com

One more time, the jobs market in Florida goes up and down with people traveling we both know that. When the economy comes back to life the jobs will come back.

I have explained that jobs in the rust belt will NEVER come back ever!
They are gone for good.

This country has went from a industrial powerhouse to a service oriented low paying job place to live and I know you know that.

What comes with these jobs? Jobs that Florida has had and will have again once the economy picks up.

I see Florida actually being the place for people with no education and no skills running to, why? Because people with money and we still have plenty of those people around will be spending it on vacations and travel, then as boomers age I believe they also will be spending their money in the south.

Sure Florida has its woes with jobs, but it will come back. Take a look at Detroit and the state of Michigan, it will NEVER BE THE SAME, EVER!!!

Florida has a better shot at recovering based on the fact of the service industry. Sure they are lower paying jobs but goodness, the government is handing out free college classes to people who had trouble getting through high school, they are giving them a chance that most of us never had, a free education and the sad part is most of them either dont take advantage of it and those who do quit because it is to hard or to much work.

Sorry to say this but if you are working for min wage and will be looking for service type min wage jobs then it is your fault.

When a man from Michigan with not even a high school education goes to Jacksonville and starts a boat business and can make himself a half a mil in his first year in Florida with no education then where the hell are all these other people who say you cannot make it?

I simply have been around business my entire life, grew up in one as my dad had his own, I can see where money is going to be spent, I can see more millionaires being made daily then ever before and think that the biggest issue is people need to do something to better themselves or make themselves worth more.

I am a strong believer that you get what you are worth or are paid for what you can do, and I truly believe we have thousands of people who are not even worth min wage.

When someone expects to be paid 25.00 to drive a tram around Disney World that is going to far, even the least talented person could learn to drive a tram on a rail. That is not a skill.

Odd we see people who have no skills whatsoever thinking they are worth more money when they are probably overpaid to begin with.

Businesses have to make a profit people, and if you as an employee are not making your business 3 times the money they are paying you an our or more then you are a goner or should be. They dont make money you dont have a job.

To many people just expect to show up and stand around and want paid 10.00 per hour to do nothing, then whine when they cannot make it.

Its your fault if you are making 10.00 per hour, not ours, not the business, not anyones but yours!

So yes, I see Florida coming back long before anything in the north ever does. Town after town are dying a slow death because of no jobs and the fact those jobs will never come back again.

Quick instance.

Small town in SE Ohio, 65k people lived there in 1980, they could not hire enough help for all the MANUFACTURING JOBS. Town was thriving, business on every corner, if you could walk you had a job easily.

Spin forward to today, 18k people live there, no jobs, the last grocery in the town just closed, one gas station left, no restaurant left either.

Buildings are empty and falling apart, the town went from a thriving proud community to a main street full of porch people with couches on the front porch. What is left in the town is older people and welfare people.

This town is done, gone and will never be back ever. This is just one town, they are all over eastern Ohio, Wva, W Pa etc. One after another gone and they will never be back again.

That is not going to happen in Florida, someone mentioned Rt 19 when the highway went in on here the other day, well, the highway did that, not jobs that wont ever come back. I drove down Rt 19 from Tallahassee to Tampa and know the road well, it was never a thriving road in certain parts.

I am still sticking with jobs in Florida will be back, sure most will be service jobs but that is what our government has done to us, turned us into a bunch of low wage service workers.

The only ones to survive are those who OWN the businesses that people with money will be spending it there. Creating min wage service jobs for those who have no skills, cannot run a business or do not have a degree and value to be hired for their value.

You can not lump the entire "North" together. The midwest is very different than the Northeast. Also, the South can not be lumped together as we see Texas actually creating jobs and holding up much better than other Southern States. This is why you see Texas growing. What does Florida have to offer a working family (not a retiree)?

That's part of the problem. FL attracts transients and people hiding from the law. We cannot compete with the Atlanta's, the Charlotte's, the Raleigh's. FL may get more of the older crowd with money, but they dont wanna give a dime to education, etc... gaining more and more retirees from the North is the last thing FL needs more of. We need younger to middle aged people, educated, friendly, etc... not the same ol people over and over again. But if we cant compete with the Atlanta's, the Charlotte's and the Raleigh's of the Southeast, then we wont get and retain. We'll still be a state that caters to old retirees from NY.

The best way to improve your chances of making a higher wage is through education. Also, try specializing in something within your field that not many people may know how to do. Make yourself stand out over others!

+ 1 for you, I have been trying to tell people that on here and get my eyes ripped out for saying it.

I built a business from scratch and worked it for many years, sold it and can stay at home and take a paycheck from the sale of it, lucky yes, but I worked 18 hour days and put in many 24 hours in a row without going to bed to build it for a long time.

I have no use for lazy butt people who whine about not making any money. Then get 2 jobs at 8.00 per hour, 16.00 per hour in a day is not bad money, yes, a lot of hours but that is your fault for not learning a trade or paying your dues like many of us have.

I know it from all sides, I had employees, good ones and terrible ones. The good ones were willing to learn, work and make my business grow, the lazy ones wanted 12.00 to sweep the floor or just show up and do nothing.

What I am trying to tell people here is there will always be jobs in Florida, but those who want to move to Florida who has skills, education or can create a business, it the place to be.

As stated above, if you have the talent to create a business that gives service to people then you can make a ton of money in Florida that you cannot make to many places.

I made my money in the wholesale business so I sold to businesses all over the US and was not stuck in one town and one state.

Now I operate many websites and sell advertising and do not even have to leave my house. If I can do it in Ohio then others can surely do it from Florida and be warm.

So if you really want make more money yes! the poster just said it, education or start your own business, make yourself more valuable to someone or something.

I cannot say it enough, Florida has far more opps to make money then people realize.

The contacts from my business over the years in Florida and many of them I tweet with, messenger with or talk on the phone to still today tell me that a Florida based business if ran correctly can make you a ton of money.

I sold wholesale products to a lady who was washing and trimming dogs for a living before she opened a retail store, she was not making much money at it and sold the business to a couple from Indiana, she has told me that couple has turned that dog grooming business into a huge business and have grown from renting a small little shop to building there own building and kennels.

She now operates a very well off retail business and still today buys products from the person I sold my business to.

She so happens to be in Naples Fla and tells me if you are willing to work and willing to give the effort the money is there.

Sure Florida is going to attract low wage earning people, if I was dirt poor and wanted to make min. wage I would be in Florida to.

I do agree. Florida has more tools then any of those cities and they fail to do anything about it.
Someone here is heading to Florida from I think Pa to do a study on jobs in Florida, hopefully they will be able to let us know what they find out soon.

I think cities like Jacksonville and Tampa easily competing with any city in any state for higher paying jobs, but they seem to have a problem doing so.

I know there are tons of people making very good money in Florida, but someone needs to figure out how to get both the tourist trade money and jobs that Atlanta is getting. Atlanta is a hot bed, Charlotte and Raleigh have declined for some reason.
