You need to add the fact that the reason for most foreclosures in Florida are because people, yes PEOPLE paid far to much for their homes and could not afford it in the first place.
Florida real estate was far more over valued then any other state in the country, now that they are coming back to real values you will see new people moving in and buying those homes for the real price value.
You also cannot count the unemployment numbers as such, some states count everyone who is getting unemployment checks and some states count everyone who does not have a job. They kinda forget many of those laze bags wont work if they did offer them a job.
The survey must have been conducted by Tan and Daily !!!

Likewise Florida. Though there have been no fewer than five threads on Florida "losing native and American population" and how AWFUL that is to some people, because the population growth that IS occurring post-boom is from immigration and births.
Double standards?

Nothing new or unusal about any of this.

Well, it's mostly Upstate that's emptying out. Nassau County lost population as well.

moving to Nassau. My daughter and her fiance bought a house there. So she is one more person "hemoraging" out of NYC, although they still work in NYC. That is why they choose Nassau because of the commute.
My older daughter left Florida a month ago. She is now living and working in Suffolk.
I plan on moving back to Suffolk to a 55+ single family community. I don't plan to stop working when I retire in 4 years from the school district here. I can work part time in the schools there since they do hire part time TA's. Or I can go work for a private agency that give benefits for working 20 hours or over. I am very fortunate that my line of work has a lot of options. I also don't have to worry about locations either.
There are a number of articles which have been written about the boomer generation and retirement. Even before this current financial crisis, the majority were saying that they didn't plan on stopping working entirely. When I have more time, I will send the links. It does have a bearing on, as one poster said, "boomers flocking to Florida for retirement." If most plan, or HAVE to, continue working that is going to have a direct effect on whether they are going to be moving to Florida, besides all the other reasons.

The unemployed are leaving in droves from Michigan; searching for real opportunity elsewhere. Now that Florida has a stated unemployment rate of nearly 10% and a real unemployment rate nearing 18%, I see some stark correlations. I see the biggest difference being that those in the Florida working class having virtually everything they treasure for their long-term financial survival (retirement, college funds, weddings) tied up in the disappearing equity in their homes. That foreclosure rate is real scary!!!

I just thought it was interesting thread. Mainly I posted it for Sunny-Days, not because I dont believe SOME of the things she says, but it isnt "a dream place" to live, atleast to many. She didnt say those exact words I dont believe, but sometimes she/he makes it out to be this wonderful place that could do no wrong, and we are one of the worst states (I think) to live in right now. You can make lots of money, etc... it's warm most of the year, yes; if that's your thing. We have nice beaches. But other than that, we really cant even compete many of the other states in the Southeast when it comes to more important things like quality of life, economically, etc...
And yes I live here and I am from here TrimT7, to answer your question.

"Quality of life" is a personal issue. It's about what matters to YOU whether or not you're going to have a good quality of life. It matters how YOU live your life, and it is all very subjective. Can't do much boating or beach going living in Atlanta, just as I can't do much mountain hiking living in Coastal Florida... OR Coastal Georgia, for that matter. I can find better restaurants and shopping where I am now than East Yahoo Tennessee as well. Can't live in full service highrise on the Treasure Coast of Florida, but I can't live on an acre of land for under 200k in Miami-Dade, either. One person likes Greenacres, one person likes city life. Who has the better "quality of life"? By what standards are you measuring and making blanket statements like that anyway?
As for "the South," economically, South Carolina and North Carolina are doing worse, and have higher tax burdens to boot Georgia is not far behind in unemployment (.1% behind FLorida), and you couldn't pay me to live in Alabama or Mississippi.

Quality of life - you just answered your own question.
There is no doubt Florida has far more then any state I have been in for the quality of life for me and many others.
Many people who have never lived anywhere else or have traveled enough to see it in person do not understand the quality of life you have in Florida.
I have traveled this country from end to end for 20 years, if there is a road going anywhere I have probably been on it!
I agree quality of life is what you enjoy and for me, having all the pleasures of life that WE enjoy cannot be found anywhere other then in Florida.
If Florida does not have the quality of life for you then you need to leave as quickly as possible so you like so many others will find your butt heading back to Florida because the sun only shines south of the Florida border!
TriM- I agree I would not live in most of those other SE states myself, they just do not have the quality of life I would expect for my family.
* Sometimes quality of life is also what you make it, if you are not willing to work hard, learn and better yourself then you will always see the quality of life around you not being good.
Goes right back to my same old idea, if you do not have what you expect it is not the states fault, the peoples fault, the cities fault, it is yours because you have failed to find do anything to improve YOUR quality of life.
I am finding out that many posters here who bash the state have never lived anywhere else, or travel in person anywhere else extensively, so you would not know what the quality of life is like.
I have done both and have been all over this country thousands of times and I see it.
I can honestly say if you cannot see the quality of life that Florida has to offer you compared to others states then you have a real problem that none of us can fix.

Did you not get enough attention as a child?? You so badly need to let the world know what a superhero you are...you are not...sorry. You so badly need someone to tell you what a wonderful human being you are. It's obvious that no matter how wonderful you say you are & how planned to the second you are for every detail to your impending move to FL which has taken YEARS b/c of a "family health care" excuse...you are getting little to no validation in your REAL life.
And no matter how you try to spin it & cover up...you are very lonely & looking for acceptance.
The same crap you post now you posted last year. Why haven't you moved to FL...ahh, right...your excuse...and it is an excuse....and I doubt you even will move to FL...the internet allows so much make-believe. Heck, for all a person knows, you do live in FL & just sit around waiting to bait.
Live for today & value what you have today. Tommorow is not a promise no matter where you live. And it's obvious you cannot live in the present due to issues you struggle with on a regular basis and are ongoing.
I have travelled extensively & lived overseas. And it made me realize the value of what I have. So, enough of the blanket statements.
My best friend is moving to Delray Beach. I'd rather have a root canal without medication than move back to FL. I've been helping her out with some things b/c those who really know the area have posted some interesting things about Delray Beach. We are still the best of friends & she doesn't berate me b/c I don't like eternal heat & sun nor do I find her silly for having a mild heart attack when it goes below 50.
And the comment on how the sun only shines in FL...are you high or off your medication when you post??
