I can find better restaurants and shopping where I am now than East Yahoo Tennessee as well. Can't live in full service highrise on the Treasure Coast of Florida, but I can't live on an acre of land for under 200k in Miami-Dade, either. One person likes Greenacres, one person likes city life. Who has the better "quality of life"? By what standards are you measuring and making blanket statements like that anyway?
As for "the South," economically, South Carolina and North Carolina are doing worse, and have higher tax burdens to boot Georgia is not far behind in unemployment (.1% behind FLorida), and you couldn't pay me to live in Alabama or Mississippi.

Where is East Yahoo Tennessee? Or is that a knock on TN? You seem to love criticizing states like TN and NC just because many people prefer to live in a place where a better quality of life can be found. I am talking less aggression on the roads so your daily commute isnt a headache or not a chore just to get groceries b/c the people drive awful and without a care in the world (many do, you cant argue that), I am talking about less sex offenders to worry about, less crime, less child abducations, less morons driving on the roads, less heat and humidity all year round, less billboards advertising alcohol and strip clubs, etc... all these things, atleast TO ME and MY FAMILY are better in the Georgia's and the North Carolina's and the Tennessee's throughout the southeast.
If you want more diversity (or really just more people from all over the world that dont care to communicate with eachother or too busy to), if you are from another country, or if you are retired and from NJ and dont want to see snow ever again... move to FL.
And I dont want to lump all of FL together. This is just in general. Obviously the panhandle will not have some of these problems that other areas in FL have. You are seeing natives and "American's" moving out of FL to places like those because they agree with me. If you dont, that's fine too. But you cant argue that places like Raleigh and Atlanta are getting more desirable folks than FL. FL attracts transients.

Again, what constitutes a "better quality of life" for YOU is not necessarily better quality of life for ME or OTHERS. I left Tallahassee after grad school to move TO South Florida, because to ME, the quality of life and what is important to ME could be found in South Florida and not Tallahassee. Many other people, however, do the opposite, and enjoy North Florida's feel and lifestyle more.

Subjective. Bad drivers are to be found everywhere. Any travelled person can attest to that fact.

And by what standard are you using to show that there are less sex offenders and less crime and child abductions? We have gone round and round on this board about how different states use different criteria to establish WHO, exactly, has to register as a "sex offender," and therefore statistics measuring "per capita sex offenders" and similar things are
Child abductions? Are you one of those people who think it's amazing you only hear of abductions in Florida and not other states --- even though you live.... IN FLORIDA?
Not every part of Florida resembles or feels like Orlando. I actually don't even like Orlando myself! Not every part of Florida has the same demographics of Orlando, and not every part of the Carolinas, Georgia is the same as Cary or Raleigh.

Lol, give me a break! I have never seen so many billboards for "Asian spas" and truck stop massage parlors as is to be found driving on I-75 through Georgia!

Ah. A breakthrough. TO YOU. Please take pains to qualify all blanket statements you make in the past about the quality of life comparisons with "TO ME" --- otherwise, you posit a personal OPINION as if it is FACT.
If you're leaving, more power to you. If only people could muster the courage to leave quietly.

"Getting more desirable folks?" What's desirable? You mean.... not immigrants?

A better quality of life to me is exactly what I mentioned above. Less crime, less sex offenders, child abductions... etc... And I do realize I live in FL, but I am tlaking about all the headlines that make national news, and FL has more cases than anywhere in the past 5 yrs, making national headlines. You cant argue the fact that all the cases in FL doesnt make you wonder. (Going back to all the criminals and transients hiding out in FL). Less idiots on the roads. You cant tell me that places like GA or TN can even begin to compete with the idiots on the FL roads. I know it's "subjective" but if you cant see how bad the driving is in FL, especially S FL and Orlando, I dont know what to tell you. All I can say is, perhaps you are now accustomed to it and dont realize how incredibly rude and bad the drivers are. I can tell you story after story about road rage and the stunts I see. And most people can attest to it. I guarantee it. So yes, "bad drivers are everywhere." If I had a nickel for everytime I heard that! LOL! Doesnt make it right, and you cant tell me that FL isnt worst than most other places. (I dont care how they drive in Baghdad or Spain or wherever, I am talking here in the U.S.).
What is more important (when talking about quality of life) than the people that make up the city in which you live in, the safety of you are your family, jobs, etc...??? Diversity or a mixed bag of nationalities doesnt constitute a better quality of life (TO ME). I dont care about getting NY style pizza, or the best bread at a Jewish deli, or the best Cuban sandwiches, or Calle Ocho festivals. TO ME, safety, good people/neighbors that are good people and care about one another, good drivers that dont act like the world revolves around them, acting like normal/decent human beings is what is more important TO ME. That's what I mean by "desirable folks."
Do you know how many times I have seen a woman needing help, or an elderly person needing the door opened for them because their hands are full, or how many times I have witnessed a person trying to cross the street and nobody helping them (and even worse getting yelled at because the person in the car doesnt have 5 seconds to spare to let this person cross the street). I have never seen so many impatient and disrespectful people in my life. And I am from FL, I didnt move here from somewhere else with rose colored glasses on or anything of the sort, thinking everyone were sweethearts and now I am seeing what it's really like. I have seen so many places do a complete 180, and I am just tired of seeing some of the residents of this state treat people with such disrespect.
And I'm not necessarily directing this at you TriMT7, everyone's thoughts and ideas, and what's important to them are different. But to me, there is no excuse for some of the actions that I see (that have become way too familiar) throughout many areas in this state.

Would that be in East Yahoo TN?
LOL Stupid Tennessee with those boring Smokey Mountains, nothing to do Memphis and Nashville, and those dopes at Norstrom must be crazy opening up one of their high end stores up in North Yahoo TN.
And oh that tacky Dollywood, Pigeon Forge...no mouse! Middle America is so bleh.
They need to cut off California, New York and Florida and leave the rest to people who appreciate all of America, IMO. There would be no more skin cancer since we'd be living in the dark... after all, it was posted:

One place in GA, okay. You are correct. But I will say this, and I have been and driven in Atlanta quite a few times... even though it is crowded and congested to the extreme, I dont see the idiots with the aggression and stupidity there that I can find in Tampa, S FL, Orlando.

Oh them....yeah....easy to forget because they have the nerve to revitalize and think their downtown is something special with Market Square on the RIVER and actually drive BOATS on it!
And history? BLEH, just because they have proof of actual humans living there in 1000 b.c. and now home to HGTV not to mention MOUNTAIN DEW being introduced from good ole ugly Knoxville in 1948
I wish I knew when I was younger how much fun it would be to live all over the USA to appreciate everything our country has to offer.
