Last night I took my late night walk in a nice little neighborhood; Coral Way and Douglas.... Every house was spanish owned, mostly Cubans. But clean streets, no crazy Latin stuff like steel on windows and general mayem in the yard like in Hialeah. But I was thinking to myself this exact neighborhood was 100% white less than 30 years ago. I only have 3 questions..............
Where did they go?
Anyone reading this thread lived here at that time?
Where did all the Coral Gables born/reared all-Americans go?
One young Cuban guy was smoking a cig outside his house in the front yard as I strolled by... "how are you" I said... and the Cuban man said with a straight face matter of fact way "....I no speak english". On another street I finally found a white dude... he said with a smirk "you're not from these parts are ya... everyone left by the late 70s early 80s".
Better yet do not fall for the "Florida is better" nonsense. If you don't retire down here with tons of money or you aren't young and on a trust fund then the palm trees and sunshine will do you no justice. It would be like living in Hawaii and making $30K per year selling t-shirst to tourists when houses cost $1 million. Tom Brady is not going to come off the bench to save you.
I think one of the biggest, if not the biggest, obstacle to happiness in Florida is the job market. If there were lots of big corporate headquarters and venture capital for high tech or other new business ventures then people would be much happier. Especially with the high cost of living. Working 2 or 3 dead end jobs really wears on people after a while. Plus with more highly educated jobs available less illegals and uneducated immigrants would come in since there wouldn't be much for them to do. Think Seattle and Microsoft or Boeing. Or Silicon Valley. Night and day.
Even Raleigh NC is like a night and day difference.

Where did they go? NC, SC, GA, TN mostly; and some went to the Panhandle, NE FL, Central FL
Anyone reading this thread lived here at that time? Family of my wife's had. They are all northward, some in Central FL and some in NC. The one's in Central FL want to move to NC actually.
Where did all the Coral Gables born/reared all-Americans go? Probably the places I mentioned above. That is generally where they all went (NC, SC, and TN, GA).

Many Whites have left South Florida all together. My Dad grew up in that area, he ended up in the Redlands but now soon to be leaving South Florida all together to move to North Florida. My Uncle left South Florida all together after college. Most of my white friends from HS have left Miami-Dade all together. Many of them saw Miami deteriating and didn't want to return to Miami after college. I should of followed them, because now with roots its harder to move, than it would of been after college.

Redlands? Where is that ? The Everglades ??? The Redlands are south of Miami, but north of Homestead. Part of the Redlands start at US1 and go all the way to the Everglades
So, your friends moved where? I'm from north central Florida and rarely do I meet whites/blacks escaping South Florida Again, where did these people go? California ? The people I went to HS or friends of mine have moved all over the country, no one particular place. NYC, LA, Boston, San Diego, Portland, Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Ocala, Gainsville, Pensacola, Raleigh, Minnesota, Atlanta, Ft. Worth, Tennessee, etc

Interesting... I'm from Gainesville and looking to re-locate to South Florida. I like downtown Fort Lauderdale but can live almost anywhere. I might head back out to Los Angeles. I am financially secure.
South Florida vs Southern California?

More Colombians and drug connected Latinos live in Kendall than anywhere outside Colombia, and Kendall is where all the major drug cartels own homes.
