If you want WAVES, stay on the Atlantic and East Coast side. My daughters always complain there are no waves in Naples. My younger daughter was down on spring break and we checked the forecasts. There was a storm coming with no sun and 4 to 7 foot waves. We went to the beach. Yes, there were finally WAVES, although still not like in the ocean.

One more thing. The gulf coast seems to be a whole lot more HUMID than the atlantic coast.

I love Sarasota area.....Siesta Key is my fave spot in Florida. I have lived in Miami, Tampa, Bradenton, and Siesta Key. I prefer the smaller toens and definately the beaches. I would not recommend Tampa----to much crime.

We live on the east coast of FL and vacation on the west coast--both sides are great!

This is an old thread so I imagine the OP perhaps settled some place already, but IMO, SE FL would be best to raise your family. There's more to do, more life experiences, and a more diverse, challenging environment that will prepare your kids better for life.
