Question Floridians, would you give up the high cost of living, and sunshine to move to the Northeast?

Price for paradise...

I honestly think that for a state with a warm climate and beaches, similar to California in a way, Florida as a whole is not that expensive.

Now, yes, it has some expensive parts, like homeowners insurance and prop. taxes. most states do have one thing or another that is expensive even when as a whole the state is cheap; e.g. Ohio has fairly high taxes although in general it tends to be a low-cost places.

The point is that Florida is most likely worth the price, if you ask me.

People keep saying that it's more expensive to live in the northeast. Plus it gets cold. You all complain about the cost of living, the weather, the traffic, etc. worse than we do and and you come here in droves. Why would we want to go there? Where's the trade off?

No, i came from the northeast 14 years ago and though all my family is still there, i have never wanted to move back for many reasons. But sure makes it easier for my family to vacation in FL now when they need to get away from the cold dreary weather up there.

No, I wouldn't give it up for the Northeast, but I would for Washington State, Oregan, California or Colorado any day.

I have no interest in moving to the Northeast unless an opportunity too good to refuse presents itself.

We probably will spend half the year in western North Carolina upon retirement because we'd like to experience the springs and falls and get away from South Florida's three H's (heat, humidity, hurricanes) in the summer.

The one cold-weather area I would consider moving to is Chicago because I spent the first 18 years of my life there and still love everything about it but the winters. My company is based in Chicago and there was an opportunity to transfer up there a few years back, but my wife (a South Florida native) nixed it. If something like that came along again and she changed her mind, I'd have to think about it.

HAHAHA no, but we are considering purchasing a SECOND home, get away type place, in Northeast Pennsylvania, or upstate NY, around 2 hours or so away from NYC .

That is assuming the real estate market turns to crap like it is here and I think it's already heading in that direction.
