Yes, OP. North FL is definitely different than S FL and Mid-Atlantic states. If you are trying to avoid the things you mentioned, I would look into Orlando, Tampa, or S FL.

The most accommodating, least judgmental people are from the north. I think that's obvious, especially when you look at things like racism, gay marriage, etc. People up there would give you the shirts off their back... in the south they would sell it to you and go buy a pack of cigarettes and bottle of beer with the proceeds.

You are ridiculously ignorant.

SiestaBay, it is obvious that you cant stand southerners, hicks, rednecks, bible thumpers, and all the other insults you mentioned, so I am curious if you are moving to FL, and what part? Where are you from originally and why do you have all these opionions?

Whoa, whoa--Now I honestly have to say-I know plenty of "redneck" or "southerners" or whatever you want to call them who will help people out in a heartbeat.
There are judgemental people everywhere you go, north-south-east-west--it doesn't matter where you are.
I resent your statement about the cigerettes and alcohol though, I know a lot of southerners who are against those things. You can't stereotype everyone based off of a few people, because not all people are like that, even in the south...

This response got me confused, we weren't speaking about college towns, we are speaking about how southern is north Fl...

WHOA-I don't recall seeing the last part of your post...
Now look, let me tell ya' something-NOT every female here in Fl. marries young. I know plenty of chicks who are 25-30 and still unmarried.
You cannot say that the Florida chicks all get married early. Again, this is a stereotype. I honestly have to say though, early marriage is everywhere-if a girl thinks they found the right guy and they think it's something that they can live with forever, yes-they will accept the guy's hand in marraige. I mean come on-I know people in CA. who have married at 18 or in AZ. Age and location has nothing to do with anything. If you are not personally ready to marry, don't ask the girl, plain and simple.
I'm a 23-yo male and I plan on continuing my education somewhere in Florida, most likely in the north like Jacksonville, Gainesville, or Tallahassee. The thing is, being raised and having gone to college in various Mid-Atlantic states, currently I'm wary of moving to the South.
I know Florida, especially South Florida, is different, but I have a college friend in Florida who says the northern part of the state is still very much the "Deep South" like Mississippi and Alabama. It's fine for some people, but I wouldn't fit in very well as I'm not really religious and I'm far from the "good-ol'-boy" archetype.
I'm also concerned about dating. I know I'm working off of stereotypes here (nothing else to go on), but I hear lots of girls in the South tend to want to get married young, which is not even on my radar at this point!
Is this all the case even in larger towns with 100,000+ residents?
well you must not know South Floridians too well. I can recall getting a flat on the Florida Turnpike and within minutes having a man hand me his cell phone to call triple A. I also recall neighbors in my community who I never met come up to my door after Hurricane Katriana which flooded our home in Cutler Ridge to check up on us and to make sure we were ok.
Don't stereotype us.

Awesome! Glad to hear it! I dont think that is the norm though, however I wish it was!
I born in S FL, so I'm not stereotyping. Personal experience.

South Florida is wonderful.... just remember pack heat in the glove, and always shoot first. Seriously, learn some spanish and open your mind to new diversity!
Open your mind and your heart and come to Miami
