Not sure what you mean by "one of them."
I am a native "FL cracker" and southerner, so I'm not sure what you are suggesting by "one of them." I for one wish FL had more natives and southerners.

I never said I was from Virginia, you did. I said I was in Virginia.
You're just as hypocritical in thinking I must be rude and from the north because I think people in the south are rednecks. Funny how that works...

the good ol boys!
Yep, even in my office I have several coworkers who are openly racist towards blacks (will drop an n-bomb) and sexist, hate gays, chauvanist etc, talk about indians working in IT as the brown people and need to get out of this country, have rush limbaugh and fox news on the company radios and tvs... Just today "I went into the this barber shop and there was this f**king ****** working there so I told the lady I don't want anybody light on their toes touching my head!" <-verbatim. This is a professional white collar job too..another one today at work... "Damn Obama...he isn't that famous...do you know who is most famous blacks? Aunt Jemima and Ms Butterworth"
They don't say this out in the open, but I suppose since I am white they assume it is okay to talk about this stuff when nobody is around.
I didn't pick up on it as much growing up here as I guess I was sheltered from it in my own family, high school, and being at university, lived in a good area...I knew it existed, but not as much...or, it got worse... but I'm pretty sure it was probably always there...but visiting back and living here now as an adult it is allover the place. Maybe it is because Obama is elected and everybody is pissed off or something, a few things in the bathroom today written on a wall
"Obama isn't black he is a effing mulatto"
"McCain was going to give you a job, Obama is going to give you a check, who are you going to complain to now ni&&ers, the MAN is now black"
Counted 6 trucks today with a confederate flag on it.
I see all this stuff on a DAILY basis...
I've heard more ignorant bigot conversations here in the last 4 months being back then I did the last 6 years being away...no doubt. from people at school, at the pharmacy, at work, at a bar, at somebodies house... it is pretty ridiculous. This is commenting mostly on West side of Tallahassee, Wakulla, Crestview, Panama City, Valdosta and Dothan, AL...the places I hve been since I've been back.

Thank you Grapico, awhile back I posted on here about racism in FL and the moderator came on here and said they never heard the N word used and lived here 30 yrs. I don't know what FL they are living in, but I have heard it used several times in 2 yrs.
In two years I have heard more racist comments then anywhere else we have ever lived, and we have lived all over the country.
They assume because you are white you share their views. Many comments towards doctors who are not American born and white.
Have heard the term "*******" used more than once. I finally told one idiot, excuse me but the doctor who put a family member into a coma by overdosing them on meds was white.
The doctor who saved the day was from India. Please stop with that kind of talk.
People in other parts of the country do not talk like this in front of people they don;t know. Here they seem to say whatever they think and assume you feel the same way.

There's an essential piece missing out of their logic, I mean just plain lacking. The gay bashers behave like they have been born better. Next time you hear that line of bull tell them that their God made them that way. They'll accept that and change their views or move on to kneejerk response two: Homosexuality is a choice. Real simple then, ask them which one of them really wants to make love to another man but doesn't only because it is a sin.
It's easy to find examples of North Florida folks who were born better than other people. On the other hand, it's real hard to find any North Florida folks who say they choose to be hetero for God's sake, but they sure wish they could jump in bed with a black man.

That's pretty common in rural Southern states. I dont think it's appropriate, but it does happen.

I know Florida, especially South Florida, is different, but I have a college friend in Florida who says the northern part of the state is still very much the "Deep South" like Mississippi and Alabama. It's fine for some people, but I wouldn't fit in very well as I'm not really religious and I'm far from the "good-ol'-boy" archetype.
I'm also concerned about dating. I know I'm working off of stereotypes here (nothing else to go on), but I hear lots of girls in the South tend to want to get married young, which is not even on my radar at this point!
Is this all the case even in larger towns with 100,000+ residents?

Then don't move here. We don't need your prejudice.
