[quote=psouth; PSL never had a job market even during the boom years. It was all about housing and construction. That will never be back. Most people commuted to Palm Beach County and points south. Unlike what Obama thinks, every one is not going to suddenly become civil engineers and bridge builders across the country either.[/QUOTE]
Anyone concerned with Chinese drywall in their home can get an easy inspection done, and then sue their builder. It's not that big of a deal. I suspect that you've never actually owned your own place, though, so it's not like people should be taking your advice on home ownership issues anyway.
That being said, it appears you are continuing your streak of misinformation. Even during the boom, only about 15% of PSL's population commuted to Palm Beach County for employment. The average commute time is 28 minutes in PSL, which does not equate to the majority of people working in Palm Beach County.
PSL (and indeed, the Treasure Coast as a whole) is not a major metro area with big buildings and huge firms like Miami or Fort Lauderdale. THAT is why people move there, because they don't like that sort of thing.
It can and should only be compared to similarly situated communities throughout the country, and as mentioned before, the median household income in PSL, which does NOT have a huge underclass OR upper class, is 40k....only 6k off the major metro area of, say, Charlotte, NC, and 5k over the median income for a place like Charleston, SC.

It seems I'm not the only one concerned about Chinese drywall. TV commercials are popping up everywhere and it is a hot topic on the PSL forum as well. Once again sueing builders and now bankrupt builders could take years to settle and some insurance companies won't even pay for the whole job. In the meantime you are stuck living in the house and corroding your lungs and internal pipes with good ole Chinese poison. Better to just not buy in the first place. Do your homework before you buy.
I also found after checking out the PSL forums that many people living there feel much the same about the bad job market and the foreclosure problem. Plus many of the newer homes are shoddy construction and are now cracking and falling apart. I haven't heard of too many of these yet.
I think I would check out Sarasota. It is much more established and not suffering from this overnight boom syndrome.

there is no point in arguing over the region.
All states have unemployment, crime, foreclosures, repos, homeless, party'rs, retirees, young and old families married with kids or single with kids, crapy jobs, great employers, and snobs.
Before anyone relocates or whatever go online or request information regarding the place you are thinking of:
Neighborhoods - crime rate (what type of crime)
Schools public, private/christian, charter
churches
Medical Facilities
Job areas (all listings)
Companies within 45 min driving.
Extra activities with sports, karate etc...
Daycares (state comments regarding the facility)
Go to local courthouse or request info from them regarding region.
Look at insurance of all kinds
Housing - what type, taxes etc
COME ON ALL STATES ARE EQUAL WITH CRIME, UNEMPLOYEMENT AND FORECLOSURE.

I would go to Sarasota. The reason I say Sarasota the culture. Sarasota is a nice place with lots of culture. Sarasota also has wonderful people and a wonderful atmosphere. I've know people who love Sarasota and some that were very sad to leave such a wonderful community. Sarasota will make you happy.
Good Luck and Happy Choosing!
