What happened to our solar power? the power companies motto to reduce energy cost for the future in better ways of obtaining it at a lower cost?
and where are OUR legislators????
Rules prevent solar panels in many states with abundant sunlight,

power company executives and regulators have worked successfully to keep most Floridians from using that sunshine to generate their own power.

Florida’s Public Service Commission voted last week to cut energy efficiency targets for power companies and to do away with a solar rebate program in the state, decisions that served to scale back the state’s already paltry efforts in renewable energy.

“Instead of siding with customers, the PSC sided with monopoly utility shareholders

The Sunshine State Cuts Its Commitment To Solar Power | ThinkProgress

The approval means that the state’s major, investor-owned utility companies have more or less gotten exactly what they wanted — energy efficiency goals will be cut by over 90%, and the state will cease supporting rooftop solar at all.

Florida, like most of the rest of the country, just elected anti-renewable-energy climate change deniers.

Seems a shame to look at that massive power generator up on the sky everyday and no one seems to be tapping its potential.

I have long thought that building codes should include energy independent requirements. Make all the homes in such a way that they need little to no outsourced power. Then many people owning older homes would retrofit to some degree, to either realize the savings or to make their homes more marketable.

No cost to the tax payers and all done with the stroke of a pen.

Would be an interesting idea so long as the collateral damage was adequately mitigated. No doubt conceiving a solution to that problem would entitle one to a substantial windfall.

My concern is what happens to your solar panels during a hurricane. We were hardly the only people in our neighborhood who ended up with trees on our roof after Ivan.

Since 2008, so many people have been upside-down with their mortgages, that spending $5K+ on a solar system ... for a house that is already worth far less than many paid for them, has been less attractive than it was prior to 2008. A lot of people with pools have solar heating systems, but, they aren't a big advantage in South Florida. In North Florida, folks don't need them in the summer ... and don't do that much swimming in the winter.

Probably what happens is lots of stuff gets damaged in a hurricane, thats why you have insurance.
The potential for hurricane damage would play a very small role in any decision i would make to have or not have solar panels.
