If those are your only choices I would go for sure to Fort Lauderdale....Better climate overall, less fog in the morning, blue waters, Atlantic breezes, more hip...

I would say go with Ft. Lauderdale there are more things to do. Just make sure there are hurricane shutters to close the condo up with when you leave.

Ft. Myers in compraison to Ft. Lauderdale? No question. Ft. Lauderdale. In your 40s you are too young for the Ft. Myers area.

Fort Lauderdale for sure. It is a much better area with world class entertainment, beaches, and lifestyle not to mention a stone's throw from world class Miami and Palm Beach. Ft. Myers is more for very old people with little to do in comparison.

Weather? Not much of a difference. Both have very oppressive heat and humidity for a large part of the year. Winters both warm.

No real difference in climate but Ft. Lauderdale is 100 times better as a place for just about any person. Actually, the summer weather is much better in Ft. Lauderdale as well. Fort Myers in the summer is usually 90+ degrees with extreme humidity and little movement in the air. A typical summer day in Ft. Lauderdale will be around 85-88 degrees with a moderate breeze, and will almost never exceed 90. The ironic thing is that you are more likely to exceed 90 degrees in the WINTER, which is when most record-breaking highs take place. IMO the summers in Ft. Lauderdale and SE Florida in general are very tolerable when compared to other parts of FL, and a record-scorching winter day will usually have a humidity level below 40%. Fort Myers is about the same in the winter, except that I think it tends to be more prone to fog and clouds.
