G'ville, like a lot of Florida has so many transients and like one poster said it is true... they come down here trying to start a new life, then roll thru their $$$ and wake up broke in Key West or sleeping on the Beach in Daytona.
One good thing about South Florida, deadbeat transients never venture down here. I guess the high cost of living, Spanish and false 'dangerous' world they think it is, keeps them at bay or up north. To bad all of Florida can't be more expensive keeping out non-Florida middle/low class America deadbeats.

Being 'more expensive' will surely help your 'zombie' friends. It's too bad all your friends have such problems. Maybe you should try to help them! Point out that there aren't any La-Z-Boys, drugs or debt in other states. No one has snotty kids in other states either. Florida causes all of those problems...absolutely!!
Gotta go for now...wifey and I are taking the scoots out for a ride.

I live in Hampton Roads, VA and when I visited Jax I immediately felt at home. It was VERY similar to wear I live, minus the palms .I really really liked it there and wouldnt mind moving there if it wasnt for the lack of jobs and low pay.

Imo
I am a new nurse grad that lives in Middle Tennessee. I am glad to have read all the posts on here and have learned about the Southern hospitality on the panhandle. I plan on working in Middle TN for 2 years, then moving to Bay County or the surrounding area. I love Florida, and it does by far have some of the best beaches I've ever been to, West or East Coast. I wouldn't want to live in a melting pot like Miami, just somewhere warmer with less winter than TN, but still has the aspect of Southern hospitality with a caring attitude toward your neighbor. Sounds like a lot of nay sayers come here to criticize, but then again, you can find someone who will always criticize the South. Perhaps they are the true ignorant ones who walk around stereotyping Southerners. I have been to almost every state, Canada, and Mexico. I have found out that you will run into ignorant "redneck" people most anywhere you go.

Wow, that's pretty igniting for being your first post. I hope I am misunderstanding you. I'm sure you didn't mean that only Southerners care about their neighbors or are kind to others and the rest of us are nothing but ignorant rednecks. I'm sure you're aware that Fla. has a huge population who were originally from many other states and several other countries.
But no matter, good luck to you with your move and your new life.

No, you have completely twisted my words around. I think the most ignorant ppl are the ones who stereotype any group. It is not my intention at all to insinuate that only Southerners are friendly and the rest are ingorant rednecks... please, that is comical. I am aware that Florida has many transplants. I just can't wait to join the mix!!

Yes, the majority of people move here for the weather, but what else are they moving here for? BEACHES! So they can have their "vacations" at the beach 365 days of the year. You go inland Florida and of course you cannot have that beach culture. Warm weather, yes. "Vacation" culture, no. I would imagine that the majority of the transplants that would be in central florida, would have been living on the coasts and didn't like it. How many initially come from other northern states to the inland areas of Florida. I would also imagine you would have more of the southern cuture inland than on the coasts. I have never been to the panhandle so I cannot say about that, other than the fact that it is closer to the other gulf southern states?
Anyway, I just wanted to try to expand on the differences in living in the two places in Florida I have lived.

Though you make a good point, the same can be said for MANY other states. Most people move to NY to be in NYC. Rarely do you ever hear anyone move inland and upstate, unless they're going to college in Syracuse. So I agree with your statement, but it can be said for almost EVERY state.
