He is not scaring anyone away. We all know everyone responds to your post and the reason why.

I would use him in a heartbeat because he tells the truth.

Dang, some people think its 105 all day and all night long. Open you windows and get some breeze off that ocean like most people do.

My kids hate being cold and hate being bundled up.

They prefer to build sandcastles over snowmen any day.

And the kid tan spoke to has some issues if he missing his grandparents that bad and talks about them to someone he/she barely knows.

How about telling him his parents are in Florida because if they were in Michigan they would have no job and you would not get to enjoy paradise like you do.

For any kid to tell any person in detail that story then the kid has some issues at home.

Believe me he is far better off where he is rather then Michigan where the entire state is falling apart and is the worst state in the country for jobs by a long shot.

I have plenty of kids from 1 to 18 in my neighborhood and you will not see them from mid Sept through end of April. And like today, it frosted last night and the kids are not to be seen in their yards today.

You will see them all day and into the eve from the last week of May through August then back inside they go.

I volunteer at school a lot and believe me see many kids who hug the walls at recess because they do not like being and forced to go outside when it is 20 degrees out.

Guarantee you most kids prefer being somewhat warm then somewhat cold by a longshot.

We all like something different but we all know the reason why some people hate Florida and heat is just an easy excuse. It was hurricanes, then it went to jobs, then when the entire country has no jobs and now we are back to the heat.

Give it a break, you knew it was hot in Florida and those who moved their from other places knew it when you went to Florida and those who were raised there have made a choice to stay for some reason.

I actually stopped for a moment to ask my 11 year old a question.

Would you prefer playing the the sand or playing in the snow.

My 11 year old said " Dad, that is a no brainer! None of my friends want to play in the snow and neither do I. Now when are we moving to Florida!"

My kid has been raised in the cold and has been in the heat and experienced them both and prefers by a long shot the heat.

She has been to San Diego, been to Phoenix, been the the Florida Keys, been to Ocean City, been to Fargo ND, been to Portland Ore and the twin cities of Minnesota, been to Detroit and on the great lakes and I can tell you she prefers being warm and being outside playing without looking like the michelin man all bundle up and cannot move her arms.

My kids want to where tank tops and flip flops not some down covered stupid snowsuit.

Bring on the heat baby!

I have lived in south Florida off and on all my life. I don't mind the heat. I haven't used air in years. People get addicted to the air conditioning. Once they sit in front of it they can't go out side. The contrast tricks their bodies into thinking anything is hot. I just use fans.

Lucky kids! I would have definitely chosen to grow up in Florida over Illinois if I had had the choice!

That's pretty out of line to call someone a liar because they disagree with you.

As for the heat - your exact location and the style of your building will have a large effect on how much you need AC. If you are in the middle of an asphalt jungle, that retains a lot of heat. If you are in a concrete block house designed with AC in mind, opening the windows might not work so well. If you are in an apartment with windows only on one side of the unit, it's impossible to set up a cross breeze. On the other hand, if you are near the ocean, or on some nice undeveloped parcel with lots of trees, in a house built in the older style that catches breezes - you won't need the AC as much. Adaptation to the heat is also much easier for some people than others. If you hate it so much that you can't contain yourself from attacking others who don't have a problem with it, do us all a favor and move back to the frozen north.

Being that I've been a cracker since 1991, I've been through Andrew in Ft. Lauderdale & our infamous run of storms between 2004 and 2006 on Anna Maria Island.

It does get a tad bit hot when you're boarded up with no A/C.

Actually, not sure if losing A/C is as bad as no heat up north when that outdoor thermometer is reading 0.... then again, what do I know?

As a kid, I once slept with my winter coat and hat on when we didn't have heat. How many clothes can you possibly take off? I would go on the fire escape, go by the piers, take a ride on the ferry, go to a movie with AC, but when I had to go back to the apartment, it was still there. It was very hard sleeping at night. I would wake up in a sweat in the middle of the night with the sheets soaking wet.

Easier to warm up than cool off. My childhood memories are probably why I hate the heat so much.

My hat goes off to those of you who lived in South Florida before AC. You deserve a medal. For as bad as it was in NYC apartments back then, I cannot imagine what you must have endured in Florida without it.

I agree. I remember growing up without AC also. It would get so hot, the candles would melt! The only option I had to cool off was to take a cool bath. I would much rather take a warm bath on a cool day!

The people that cut holes in the ice to go swimming must not really like it.
Difference in the north is; we acknowledged long ago that there are a few months of the year that are cold. As a result, we have built up indoor activity and cultural centers.

However, winter in not a waste. Love downhill skiing, ice-skating, snow mobiling, hot toddys in the warm sun, etc.............

Then of course, we have beautiful spring and fall. as well as summer during which we can enjoy all the outdoor activities such as swimming, etc..........

We have it all!
