Default Live Oak Florida, I never see it mentioned.

I never see Live Oak Mentioned when people are recommending places in Florida to live. It is centrally located in Northern Florida and would seem to be a good location. In checking crime looks low. Is there something wrong that is not immediately apparent? I have never spent any time there but the area seems pretty nice just at a glance. I know they have a music festival there a few times a year.
Really would like an honest first hand assessment.
Thanks.

The population is under 7000 and there is not much in the way of work there so I guess there is not too much to say about it.

I have spent a lot of time in Live Oak (never lived there), but it's a great place. I would live there if someone offered me a good job. Suwannee County is my favorite place in Florida. I guess the reason nobody talks about it because it's small, not much going on. Not much growth (not necessarily a bad thing).

Well I lived there for about 15 years while our son was in school. It is a small town in the middle of Florida's Bible belt. It is VERY conservative. If you fit that profile, Live Oak is the place for you. We moved away as soon as our son graduated and enlisted in the Air Force. People always described Live Oak as "clannish".

I think that could be the description of many Florida Towns. They are either like south Florida where no one talks to their neighbors, people come and go and will stab you in the back in a second. Or like you describe. I have been to a lot of southern towns and for the most part they keep to themselves but are not hard to get to know. Just the last time I was up that way I was on the side of the road checking my map and in the course of 5 minutes two cars stopped to see if I was having trouble. This was near Bristol Florida. I think I can take the small town mind set a little better then a place like Miami. Nothing is perfect. I sometimes play a mind game where I imagine driving into my town as a stranger. Would I live here? If objectively I look around as if I were a stranger, I could not wait to leave. Some how we just end up in places and get stuck there, maybe for a lifetime.
