Can anyone tell me about Avon Park and its expansion? Is their a Walmart going to be built? I am a Realtor from Los Anegeles, CA and have a grandfather her owns some property there. He is unsure of the future of Avon Park? Any experts out there who know the area and it's future???

Hi I live in Sebring, the rumor has been that there will be a Walmart coming into Avon Park, however the location in Avon Park has yet to be announced. As far as the future of Avon Park, they have been talking of plans of revitalizing Avon Park, there are different areas some really nice and others that have a real need for revitalization. It really depends on the area and where your grandfather has his property. I can tell you that overall Highlands County which includes Avon Park, is growing and property prices have been on the upswing for the past couple of years. The Walmart in Avon Park will go between the Chevy dealer and the Ford dealer on the west side of US27. Ground isn't planned to be broken until 2007. Hope this helps.

Not sure if you're still interested as some time has passed since you posted, but the new WalMart has a shell (very nice looking store) but they've once again pushed back the opening to Summer of '08 now. There is, however, a lot of other expansion going on in Sebring as a new shopping complex is nearing completion. (Distance is only about 12-15 miles depending on where you start from in Avon Park.) My personal opinion is that there is to much expansion too quickly but I'm not an expert, just a resident.

The new wal-mart is waiting issues with highways access I believe now, the store has product on the shelves and they are ready to open but now the red tape is holding it up. Heard it was opening in August another person claimed this spring early summer so we will see! The building is nice, looks great now, can not wait to get inside.
