So if you are making it in Florida then I guess it is not as bad as you make Florida out to be. If you can make it then so can others!!
It depends on what job field they are in and where they are FROM.

Did I ever say any of us had a problem finding jobs here?

I cannot wait until the day you move here. Maybe then you will be so in 7th heaven and so enjoying living outside 12 months a year, you won't come on here anymore.

I will MOST DEFINITELY not be back here when I go home.
You wont be on this forum you mean? Call for celebration then!!

See you called your NY home, home. So you should have never left NY in the first place if you could never let go of it.

When I move to Florida, Florida will be home.

So your input is biased from the start, you never wanted to be in Florida so how can anyone wanting to move to Florida trust your judgments?

It's called a laptop and I will have it with me everywhere I go.

Sorry, I am not going anywhere.

I would not talk much, you were removed from this forum once before for you constant hateful post and negativity. How quick do people forget?

When I move to Florida I will be on here encouraging people to move to Florida or at least try it. Not filling them full of how miserable a person is because they made poor choices and blame it on everything except themselves.

Do you know how many people you have chased away from this board because of your constant hatred of the state of Florida? People get sick of listening to you whine 365 days a year.

People who want to move to Florida are coming here for advice and encouragement and vital info, not to listen to you constant hate rants and negativity.

99.9% of the people know Florida has its good and its bad but they also know it is just as bad where they are or they would not want to leave it.

Just because you are unhappy being in Florida does not mean other will be.

In fact a huge majority of those who moved to Florida like it. The ones who did not we have found did not do there homework or should not have moved to Florida in the first place.

Look at the amount of people who have left Florida and have moved back, tons of them.

Hopefully the hateful hate Florida crowd will all be in NY where they belong and leave the state wide open with fun, loving, caring people who know how to enjoy life and hope other get the chance to enjoy a better life then where they come from.

Your story is sad but man lady, give it a break already!

If you cannot live decently on 40k in 9 months then you really need some help. She would have made close to 55k easily has she been there the entire year.

Far cheaper for me to live in Florida then where I am at in Ohio, 20-25% cheaper for the same size, style, type home, cheaper foods, cheaper taxes by a long shot and tons more to do and see. I have spent a ton of time comparing many different towns and it is not even close.
So what you are saying is anyone including a 20 year old girl can just come to Florida and magically get rich or fall into some high paying job without even trying? Where are you coming from? What are the nearly 1 million unemployed Floridians doing wrong where they can't get a job the next day like that girl did making that kind of money? People with advanced degrees also. Why are so many people having to relocate out of Florida for work? It sounds like they are all just lazy and stupid but can somehow get a job out of state by being lazy and stupid? Doesn't add up. This girl must have been selling drugs, escorting, stripping, or got involved in some kind of Florida schemes. Or she was just plain lying which is very common in Florida. Why did she leave if she got such a good job so fast?

I still don't see what is so much cheaper in Florida then Ohio. Ohio is one of the cheapest and most depressed states. Real estate has taken a dive there also like most other places. Again I think you are comparing foreclosures or short sale properties in desolate Florida towns like Belle Glade or Pahokee or Sebring, etc. where no one wants to live. If you bought your home in Ohio at market peak it is probably worth 50% less now too. So tell me exactly what is cheaper in Florida? Food is very expensive down here even compared to the Northeast. Car insurance is among the highest in the country. The same for homeowners. Taxes have gone sky high because of the inflated housing. Jobs pay crap and comparable to parts of Ohio actually. And don't even try to tell me homes are cheaper here. They will give you a house just for coming to Ohio. They are dirt cheap there except maybe for a McMansion in one of the very few upscale neighborhoods left in Ohio. You can buy houses all day long for under $100K in places like Steubenville, Akron, Dayton, Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Youngstown, Geneva, etc. Not even close in Florida. By the way, I have relatives in Ohio so I know the situation first hand. Plus it has been featured on HGTV house hunters lately. Cheap houses everywhere in Ohio.

You must be comparing Ohio to Haiti or something. Not the Florida I live in.

By the way my friend bought a nice house on a nice street for $30,000. It is not in Akron ghetto or rat infested. It is mid 20th century but in good shape in a small town outside of Akron. Not a destroyed foreclosure or anything. Houses are so cheap there because people can't leave fast enough to escape the lack of a job market and closed down factories. People in Eastern Ohio are now commuting to Pittsburgh just for $8 per hour jobs. If Ohio were that much more than Florida then every one would have to be making $80K per year just to live there. I think not.

As another poster said, they would have go be coming on a boat from Haiti for it to be much worse than Florida.

The vast majority of states are in much better shape than Florida simply because they were in much better shape to BEGIN WITH.

I also have never seen you acknowledge the fact, when you keep harping on all the people who moved back to Florida, that I AM one of those who moved back to Florida. WHY NOT? Because only people who MISSED Florida in your narrow mind ever move back.

I don't know. I'm no risk taker and make every major decision in life with foresight and as much knowledge as I can get. Seriously, it can't be all THAT bad?
It's discouraging to hear the negatives, but I suppose it's good to know what to watch out for.
Feel fortunate to be able to read about both sides and be better prepared than folks ever were pre-internet for what awaits you. Also everybody thinking of moving here must remember Florida is a huge state. Big differerences in climate, demographics even topography. Someone told me you can drive from Chicago to Pensacola in less time than it takes to get to Pensacola from Key West.

The cost of water is VERY EXPENSIVE in Florida.
RE Taxes, insurance and utilities in South Florida are much higher than the rest of the state. $3600 for car insurance for an 18 year old with a clean record is insane. Water rates just doubled lately. Homeowners insurance have come down a lot but are still quite high 2-3 times what they'd be in north Florida. Just have to keep the fingers crossed we don't get the big one hit cause the state's fund would be insolvent. Compared to places like Atlanta, Raleigh or Denver or even Orlando cost of living in southern Fla is significanty higher.. but I doubt costs are close to what NYC is today..lol

There are tons of newer 3/2/2's for under $70k in many decent areas like Pt St Lucie, Palm Bay, Cape Coral, Port Charlotte, Deltona, Spring Hill ect... If you want to pay in the $30's you'll get an older 1970's ranch fixer upper.

Florida is a huge step up from Maine. I mean who would want to live there especially in the winter? I've met a lot of very strange people up there as well. People in Northern Maine would know what I'm talking about.
