You, like many others on this board, seem to think jobs are plentiful in this country everywhere BUT Florida. That is absolutely false. Laughably, others on this board CONTINUE to extoll the "good paying jobs" virtues of places with almost 2 percentage points higher unemployment than FLorida.

It was funny the first dozen times. Now it's annoying.

But, such is life. Just three weeks ago I joined dozens of other strangers on a sandbar in the middle of the intracoastal waterway on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Families, people with dogs, canoes, kayaks, yachts, old beat up boats.... kids catching hermit crabs, pelicans, exotic birds.... ya know, PEOPLE, enjoying life in Florida. (I don't have a boat, rented a kayak for the day).

Meanwhile, back in Grumpville City Data, the usual suspects are complaining about how HOT it is, how THEIR kids have to sit inside all day (no nod to the fact that their kids are really just lazy and would rather play video games), and oh my god, the HISPANICS and TRAFFIC! Wah Wah Wah.

I actually don't heat my pool, because I am too cheap to do so. Maybe someday I'll get a solar heater though, so I can go in all year long. Swimming in February is definitely NOT my ideal, to be sure, but it's possible. Better than the sad closed up pools up North with the cover.

Lake Worth and Riviera aren't really in the Miami metro area.

Living in the outskirts of Miami vs the outskirts of Atlanta is night and day difference. Friendliness, attitudes, common courtesty, etc - advantage John's Creek, Alpharetta, Roswell, etc... Opa Locka? Lake Worth? Riviera Beach? LOL! Atlanta has crime, but on the outskirts BIG DIFFERENCE!

Go on the ATL forum and ask the Floridians up there (who live in the outskirts of the ATL area) how many would move back to S FL and which one provides a better quality of life, which one is safer, better for families, etc...

Yes, weather IS my bottom line and EVERYTHING which it is geared to in Florida. It was why I left in 1971. Why would it be different now? If only my husband could have found employment ANYWHERE in the country that had 4 SEASONS. I don't know anyone among my family, in laws, former neighbors who are unemployed. Neither was I. But none of us are in the IT FIELD as my husband. Yes, I did make more money in NY than here. Florida's unemployment rate IS lower than the NY Tri State area. Long Island? If you live on LI, that means you have to WORK on LI?

People who post on here that Florida is the greatest place on this planet and that EVERYONE EVERYWHERE would just kill to live here IS annoying.

Doing those things you quoted with send me into a panic and tears. I cannot spend more than about an hour outside any time of the year in Florida. I have summer SAD. It was bad summer time in NY, but in Florida it is all year.

The kids where we used to live in the condo and now here in our development are not outside in the middle of the day. They are out early mornings and after dinner, when it isnt as hot. This included the kids from the Mexican families too.

I had a sad closed up pool up North in the SUMMER. We got rid of it because my kids, or my husband or I, never went in it. Even if we wanted to, we were never home to use it, winter, spring, summer, or fall. My daughters played competitive sports YEAR ROUND (yes, WINTERS) and we were all too busy travelling from state to state. We don't have a pool here in Florida either. Was very difficult finding a house that DIDN'T. Why spend all that money maintaining a pool which you aren't going to use? We don't go in our community pool either.

Poor deprived kids. Too bad they missed out on all the "fun" they could have had with year round summer, pools, and beaches living in Florida.

To me, it's everything weather should be. Why be HOT 9 months out of the year if your decision is based only on weather?
Hardee har har...where do you live? I live in SC, close to the NC border.
Not freezing? are you kidding me? Let me count how many plants I lost over the winter due to the severe cold weather.

Three weeks ago on a Monday, I wore my winter coat to work. Yeah the weather in NC and SC is picture perfect not. Snow 3 times, temps in the teens.

And as far as laying on a hammock yeah, if you want to be a human meal for mosquitoes. Please don't make NC and SC sound like a haven compared to Florida because they are not.

NC is the most tax happy state in the entire South. I hate that place.
So from this forum here's a post:

I HATED NC AND LEFT 2 years after I made the unfortunate decision to move to that (I don't have time to put all the negative adjectives I can think of here) state.

That's true. They were just examples. I think I could find other crime ridden places just outside of Miami, Opa Locka comes to mind. YIKES!

Point was, you can take all the cities on the outskirts of Atlanta, and they wont be as bad as some of the cities around Miami, FTL, or West Palm Beach.

Three weeks ago on a Monday, I wore my winter coat to work. Yeah the weather in NC and SC is picture perfect not. Snow 3 times, temps in the teens. Temps in the teens less than 3 weeks ago? Wow, that's interesting! So one day, it's 75 and one day it could be snowing? Kick a$$!!! How does 97 for a high sound the other day? And STILL 94 degrees the other night at 9pm in Central FL? I checked on weather.com, the weather in Charlotte late last month was ranging from 45 to 60 degrees for the LOW and the HIGHS were anywhere from 75 too 88 degrees. Right now, it is 72 degrees in Charlotte. I'm just sayin'.

And as far as laying on a hammock yeah, if you want to be a human meal for mosquitoes. Please don't make NC and SC sound like a haven compared to Florida because they are not. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! We dont have misquitoes here in FL to worry about! LOL! They like hot, humid air!!! We dont have misquitoes in the "winter time" in FL... so you all actually have far less of a problem with misquitoes than we do due to the cooler, drier air. Hello!

NC is the most tax happy state in the entire South. I hate that place.
So from this forum here's a post:

I HATED NC AND LEFT 2 years after I made the unfortunate decision to move to that (I don't have time to put all the negative adjectives I can think of here) state. Couldnt have elaborated? Anyway, dont you think it's realistic to assume that some people arent going to like it? Especially considering the thousands that have moved there from FL and do like it?

MrsP, have you spent much time in FL? Honestly, with the arguments you are making, it doesnt seem very likely.

I mean, you bring up misquitoes (the FL state bird), then you compare losing a few plants in the winter while some of us in Central FL are dealing with crazy wildfires, and ALREADY dealing with temps in the 90's?

Do not take this as rude, but you really arent making much of an argument. In fact, some of what you are saying is doing the exact opposite.

Why? Because I am defending it to people that keep on throwing it under the bus? One person in particular always says when S FL is brought about negatively (in whatever way) that "Oh, I guess I should run TO NC where everyone is happy, everyone has a good job, etc."

It gets old.

If you go back to the first page, it's obvious I didnt bring up NC, SC or GA. Someone else did, as in most cases.

You should check out College Park, Chamblee, Norcross, and basically all of Clayton County. Find a school district in Florida that lost it's accreditation from the US Government. Clayton County did. Should I start comparing Palm Beach Gardens, Weston, Parkland, and Cooper City to those areas? No, you would compare Clayton County to Miami Gardens, and you would compare Weston to Alpharetta.

It is spring in Pittsburgh, and I can so relate to what you are saying... especially today. How do you describe to someone in Florida who has never experienced the brisk aura of spring? Or the exhilaration of the start of a new season? The awakening of the winter-resting natural environment that surrounds your very existence in all that you do, is virtually indescribable.... one has to have experienced it to truly understand.
