Some are simply looking to trade their high crime, low pay, bad school, brutal winters and hot summers in Anytown USA for high crime, low pay, bad schools with hot year round Florida.

Understood, but as I've already stated, people seem to over-compensate with regards to weather at least.... Fine, you had a nasty winter in Ohio, I can understand wanting to move, but moving to Florida can be overkill for SO many that move from the snowbelt down to the extreme heat of Florida.
There's a WHOLE RANGE of states in between with less-harsh winters than Ohio, New York, Michigan, Jersey, etc.. THAT is why the "haters" in Florida typically look at North Carolina, Tennessee, etc... Because they've been where some of these people have been in the snowbelt, they moved to Florida and scorched themselves and now want to go someplace to cool off without freezing to death....
It's simply worth noting is all I'm saying..... It's a WARNING to some of these people. Warm to Hot and Hot to Warm actually does get old after awhile....

I am out there everyday working and enjoying Central Florida. I live in Kissimmee (Downtown area) and enjoy the things it has to offer as well. I am wondering if the people who are so negative are actually out there in their communities because if they are not then how can they be the experts they claim??? By watching the news? Well, there is a huge difference between seeing and actually experiencing Central Florida. Live a little away from the computer and turn off the news and you would be surprised at how great it can be.

cmj,
Are you saying that Tangelo Park is a good investment? My DH is into flipping, but I'd rather do it in a place where (1) he'd be safe there doing the work, and (2) there would be some resale value to the house after the work was done, as well as (3) it would be an area we'd want to be associated with or even live in.

Florida ranked No. 43 in a new scorecard measuring how the health system is performing on a state-by-state basis.

I think the thing with Fla is a lot of people who moved there from other places didn't realize what it was going to be like or expect the heat to be as bad as it is.They find out very quickly its not like in the commercials. Most probably visited during snowbird season when its relativly mild.. thats putting mild lightly of course and thought yah I can handle this.. Well here comes Aug. where its dead heat, the bugs are out full force, its too hot to go to the beach etc. But by that time their stuck cause they bought a house or signed a lease so they can't do much about it. Its hard, I lived there for 23 years. I just moved to New Hamsphire 2 weeks ago and there hasn't been 1 second of my day where I thought hmmm I want to go back to Naples or Florida for that matter. Todays high here was 65.. No joke 65 degrees. The sun was shining and it was just perfect out, a slight breeze the air is so crisp and clean. I look at Naples its 88.. Forget that I can do without that heat and humidity. My town now is soo clean and friendly, people lay out in the grass on mainstreet just mingling and chatting. Its all preference really. If you hate Florida then I def suggest you get out. I did and it was the best thing I EVER did.

Sure, but going to New Hampshire in June is like going to Florida during snowbird season.

Sure I want to know something that will help me in my decision, but the same posters who "HATE Florida" so bad, well, they never post anything POSITIVE, therefore they cannot be trusted for the words they write.
Newbies like me on this board read all the negatives and laughed at them. But my wife sit down and read this board while I was at work and was immediately drawn into her mothering protective instincts when she read 4 threads in a row with nothing but hate negatives in them.
It is a shame that people twist and turn and force personal preferences into post knowing that if they just keep one person or family from moving to Florida then they have accomplished something.
Negatives are all around us, not just in Florida, but to purposely post hate negatives ALL THE TIME is going beyond what I believe is the purpose.
Sure, posting fact filled negatives is fine by me, I can sort the info out myself, but what I see is a select few on this board who take personal aim at anyone who can argue there point as being wrong and call them on there "out of touch personal opinion" post.
All the post about crime, gangs, heat, low paying jobs, cost of A/C, housing, COL etc are getting old, the constant bumping up of this kind of personal opinions do not do anyone any good, all it does is scare newbies and people who do not have other outlets to find out for themselves.
I think those posters know that and continue to be happy about what there REAL intentions are.
Other boards DO NOT ALLOW negative troll type poster to continue to disrupt and flame others just because they are unhappy or selfish people themselves.
They allow fact filled info only. One mod on another board put a sticky at the top
" If you post a negative, you better back it up with facts from a reliable source or it will be deleted"
Now for me.
I have traveled Florida for more then 25 years, been in almost every town on the map or drove through it, we have traveled every year for 20 years 2 times per year on vacation and spent more then 100 days a year on business in your state, I have seen it all and can say, there is nothing, nothing that I can say I have seen that can back up all those negative post with any concrete evidence.
I know people all over the state and never have found any of them ever be so negative about the state of Florida. Fact is 99% of them tell us you need to move here, its well worth it!
I have seen more crime in Baltimore, Maryland in one week then I have seen in 25 years in Florida, get caught in the middle of a gang fight and you will know.
I have seen the hurricanes, we were in Myrtle Beach on vacation when Hugo hit.
I have higher heat bills then most any of you A/c bills.
My property tax, insurance, community fees etc are just as much if not more then the areas I am looking to buy in Florida.
Heat is easy to handle, cold is not. Read the post, most of us in the snow and cold belt all post how tired we are of it. But only a few of you complain and whine about how hot it is.
I believe it is a total shame that someone can sit down, take the time to post nothing but negatives when you know you are outnumbered by thousands with your opinions.
My personal thoughts are this.
Nothing you Florida hatters post will impact me, I will not allow it. If I was a Florida resident, I would be ashamed of you. Sure, some post some facts, but 99% of the time they are just your personal opinions with links or facts that only point your way.
You live in a wonderful place, full of charm, good people and life is much better then others have it, you just have not experienced the other side.
For those Florida haters, at first I read your post and took offense to them because I felt they were trying to convince me to not come to Florida, but after a couple PM's and some emails and a phone call to my brother in law in the Ft. Lauderdale area, I knew it was nothing but hate in your own hearts that make you take the time to post nothing but negatives.
We are coming to Florida with open minds and open hearts and there is nothing you Florida haters can post that will scare me off. With all these wonderful people on this board and there are allot of you, we have decided that here always will be people like you haters everywhere we go, we will just do what out parents told us to do " Surround yourself with good, hard working positive people and it will pay off "
Those Florida haters need to really ask themselves something.
" What good am I doing by purposely trying to convince people to stay away? " and " What can I do better with my time instead of this? "
I would be willing to bet if you answered those two questions you would be allot happier with your own lives instead of trying to make others lives miserable.

Then I would not recommend this area for him because, although it has made improvements, it really does not have a good reputation and that, above all other reasons, will probably not change and definitely not give you a return on your money at this time. I think the investors saw the price tags (which were below $100,000) and bought sight unseen. They have done wonders tin improving the area but I do not think any of them came out of it with very much money to show for it. It is much better investment if you could find the worst house in a good neighborhood and make it better then trying to sell the best house in a bad neighborhood. I really believe the Flipping industry is dead at the moment but if I were to make a suggestion I would look into Hunter's Creek and try to find a steal that you can put a little money into and sit on it a little while until things pick up more. There are a few places in Kissimmee in the Pleasant Hill area (a very nice part of Kissimmee) that I would suggest as well. I know a great real estate agent for this if you are interested - pm me if you need more info. Good luck!

As I think we've all determined, which is why the weather threads are dying off here, "perfect weather" is VERY subjective. TO YOU it is perfect. TO ME typically Florida is nice about 1 1/2 months out of the year (though this spring seems to have been an exception to the rule).
