I agree about northern VA. It can be beastly. Most of NJ can be said to have the same trouble at peak hours.

Try living in the Poconos and commuting to NYC or any of the larger centers in NJ like Newark, Paterson, Morristown along Rt 80. YOu will seriously reconsider your lifestyle.

Negativity is a matter of the perspective of the person - if you've seen worse, then what someone else thinks is unliveable may just not be so bad.

I've lived (and driven) in Fla, NYC, NJ, Chicago. Visited many parts of this great country in my car. I can't wait to wrap up the bits and pieces of my life here in NJ and get back to FL. Overall, it is a much better way of life.

Hello everyone,

Planning to relocate to Fl. Is NW Palm Bay a good place to raise active children and if so/not which location do you recommend?

What you do to one side, you do to another. For every positive, there is a negative, or vice-versa.
These are just peoples opinions. The people that do not like Florida anymore are most likely trying to leave. Take every comment with a grain of salt and find out for ones self.

On a positive or(negative) note, depending on how you look at it, Florida is getting ready to overhaul our home taxes by giving us more of an exemption, I believe it will be for all, not just year around residents. The positives: lower taxes for you & me, more housing will sell, neg: education will suffer-amoung other things.

I know what you mean, I don't know how people do that Pocono commute! I don't care how much money, I wouldn't do that. Northern NJ can be bad at times.

Virginia has a huge problem with road rage. People in the DC area are so unpredictable that they've put up special signs now on the beltway warning against aggressive driving. I believe that recently someone killed another person (deliberately) there in a road rage incident.

I would think one good thing about Fla. would be that since the weather is generally sunny, things wouldn't get messed up as often. All it takes is some drizzle during rush hour here to screw everything up and double your commute.

You can certainly choose to live in a country setting in Virginia and do a 30-40 mile commute to a job center, but I guarantee you will be on the verge of going postal within one week. The sheer awfulness of the traffic situation in Northern Va. can't possibly be overstated, it's rivaled only by LA.
Tomato, tomahto...... "arrogant lawyers", or "rude jacka$$es".... They both are annoying. Point is that NoVA is simply one part of Virginia while Miami is just one part of Florida.

Virginia has Richmond, the Tidewater Region, Roanoke, Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, etc.. so there are other metro options just like Florida, so again, let's not judge based on one class of people in one area. I know the type you're referring to for sure from my time in Alexandria. Most annoying.

Obviously you don't live in Orlando or are familiar with it's drivers. Otherwise you wouldn't make such statements regarding road rage, and the traffic isn't near as bad as D.C. ... THAT's what's frightening...

It's HOT. Sunny and HOT. They won't ever put those signs up because it will discourage the tourists, which is Florida's major bread and butter.

Ever drive in the rain in Florida? Black ice has nothing on it. I'll let other explain.

The night before last I was driving with my mom to return a car we were borrowing. It started raining and flash flooding was everywhere. You couldn't see 10 feet in front of you, and to make it worse people started zooming around us even though they didn't have any better visibility than us. We saw a couple of people whose cars quit and they either had to push or call for help. We had to turn off the main road a few times to avoid deep water. It took us twice as long to get to our destination.

This is a typical FL summer thunderstorm. Just can't wait until a tropical system comes our way packing high winds and 15 foot storm surge (my house is at sea level, which means 15 foot storm surge is 15 feet up my walls).
