Default One Florida city ranks #6 "saddest city" in US

Jacksonville

"Some U.S. cities were depressed even before the economy went on life support. These were the cities that saw the highest depression and suicide rates even while the Dow Jones was climbing to 14,000 and Countrywide Financial was considered a respected mortgage lender. Why? Blame a variety of reasons, from divorce and crime to lousy weather and job loss."

depression rank - 2nd
suicide rank - 9th
crime - 23rd

America's top 10 unhappiest cities - MSN Real Estate

I personally like Jax, and think it is Florida's best big city. But msn.com thinks otherwise according to their research and stats.

Lousy weather? Jacksonville has beautiful weather.... especially for people who like their four seasons very mild.

I like Jax's weather too - cooler winters than the rest of FL and although it still gets hot and humid 6 months out of the year, atleast you get cool winters and have somewhat of a "season" although I still wouldnt call it that. My 2 cents.

florida has got to be one of if not the most unhappiest states as a whole...i mean between all the foreclosures, broken dreams of transients, job losses/low paying jobs to begin with, crime, oppressive heat/rains, constant threat of hurricanes july thru october, the many different ethnic groups at odds with eachother, the cranky old people, corrupt govts, etc etc etc....prozac sales must be thru the roof in this state

Although Florida has been going through some tough times, I don't think most of us constitute the unhappiest in the nation. A lot of those who lost jobs have moved on to other locales or have gotten another job. Times are bad, but I think most of us left here are pretty happy to be here.

We don't really have any more crime than other states -- just depends on where you are within the cities. If we couldn't handle the heat/humidity, we wouldn't have stayed here most of our lives. We don't worry about hurricanes any more, and probably not as much, as Kansas and Oklahoma worry about tornados. Every location has its fair share bad weather or natural disasters. Ethnic groups have troubles everywhere, but for the most part, Florida doesn't have a big racial problem. And a bunch of the illegals have left Florida because there's no work for them!

Cranky old people? Ok, maybe there are some, but no more than cranky young people! And some of us on the other side of 50 are pretty darn happy!

Goverments are corrupt in any state or nation you want to name.

In other words, Florida isn't any worse than many states and lots better than some.
