Default Squirrels

Florida has the coolest squirrels. These guys are more laid back than any of the squirrels I have seen. They will walk right next to you. They wont even run off sometimes if im three feet away. I had a baby squirrel within two feet of me it was the weirdest thing. I see them networking and barking at cats. They get in this agressive little posture where they spread out there arms and legs and start bobbing their heads and making noises. Ive even seen them get mad at the birds and chase them for making to much noise. These things are hilarious. Then they got these little flying squirrels here. If you havent seen a flying squirrel look for them. They're awesome. But your guys birds are annoying! DANG. All the birds around here constantly get in fights and make all kinds of noise. But ill say it again Florida has the coolest squirrels.

Default Long tailed rats?

Yea they are all cute until their homes are bulldozed for another damn subdivision. The they are run out and of course have to find a new home. Once you find them chewing through your facia trying to find a new home you may not think they are so cute.

Default Where?

I know this is an old post, but are there squirrels all over Florida? I know this might seem weird, but I'd love to own a house with squirrels that visit my backyard (: I used to live in Costa Mesa, CA, and there were squirrels that would come right up to my door and I could hand feed them. I'm planning to move to Boca Raton or Fort Lauderdale area. Does anybody know if it's possible to find a property with squirrels in those areas?

I want to say the squirrels are everywhere in South Florida. But I have heard people that live in the western parts of Miami, sat that they don't see them out there. I can't really believe that, but that's what they say. Put a bird feeder in, and my guess is you will have squirrels. I have a bunch that come raid my bird feeder each day.

Tampabay is Loaded with them.
I see them once in a while, but I live on the beach that you can only get to by one bridge, plus I only know of one oak tree on the island.
The second you leave the island, squirrels are Everywhere.

Central Florida is loaded with them as well. Most humane individuals find them tolerable/pleasant and then there's those sick individuals which this part of the state seems rife with who get off on killing any animal that wanders into their yard (or that crosses the road).

I am in the Sarasota-Bradenton area, and this area is loaded as well. Lots of trees here, plus the coast and there is all kinds of wildlife. I do have a birdfeeder and have many squirrels that come and clean it out everyday - hardly leaves anything for the birds - they are like bottomless pits. One of my hobbies is watching wildlife, I love living here because there is a great variety of wildlife to see.

Lots of squirrels in Central Florida, yes. When I was very young I was at Bok Tower with a tourist group. I started making a squirrel call and I was stunned when hordes of these guys started following me around. I think I was about 12 and my parents were not amused!

I don't remember squirrels in the Fort Myers-Naples area. Maybe they were there but I don't remember them. They don't have any robins, either. There are lots that come down for the winter in Central Florida - real snowbirds! - but not one in Fort Myers or points south!

I see squirrels all the time here, seemingly infested with them sometimes! I don't see a lot of robins, blue jays etc. Infact I've frequently commented on how I don't hear hardly any song birds. I see a lot of crows tho. I can remember in NH the songbirds bein so loud they'd wake me in the am.. here I'm only woken my traffic and loud banging from construction. Or some punk kid that squeals his tires for a min and a half at 330 am in the parking lot...

There will usually be more birds where there are more trees - do you live in an area with not too many trees? In my neighborhood in Sarasota, I have loads of squirrels, cardinals, blue jays, titmice (birds) egrets, herons, woodpeckers, cranes and many others. I love living where there is a variety of wildlife. Robins are not usually seen this far south in the winter, but I used to get HUGE flocks of them at our country home in Dade City (north of Tampa)
