He clearly never invented the Internet, that was just one of his angry lunatic rants. I bet that he smoked a good one and hada "vision" of "Global warming" and since he has the money, he decided to make a movie about it. You know what is funny? Al Gore only drives around in a caravan of gas-guzzling SUVs while he tells you to drive small, crappy gas-miser car. Al Gore's house consumes more electricity in one month than most American households do in a year!! Al Gore even had a zinc mine in his property! See the following: http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion...re-green_x.htm http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?se...rld&id=5072659 He is a hypocrite and a liar. If you believe in Al Gore's "Global warming", then you might as well stay up all night waiting for Santa during Christmas or look for the Easter Bunny! ![]() |

to educate some people here
1 - the ice they are worried about that IS starting to melt is on land. so, as it starts to melt, that is what will raise sea levels. 2 - its not just melting ice. as the temp gets hotter, water expands. perhaps not much, but when you look at the amount of water in the world, it doesn't take much. i live just a few feet above sea level, on the water, so even a small change could effect me. one of the first signs we will get is some of the islands. IF they are correct, and I believe they are, rising seas will start to inundate the islands of the Caribbean. IF this does happen, good luck on ever getting ANY insurance in floriduh. |

The fact is the world is getting warmer. There is no doubt about this fact. There are hundreds of studies that support this. Anyone who denies this is just ignorant. The controversy is how much the world is warming, its consequences and whether it is man-made or not.
Florida is vulnerable because it is low-lying. When glaciers melt, ocean levels will rise. |

I hear you about the concern of rising water levels, but why do people target FL specifically with talk of global warming? The global effect would also affect California, seattle, Texas, NYC and the entire east coast. But one of the FIRST things I hear from naysayers about moving to Florida is that there is global warming and hurricanes and it is turning into a desert so I will be flooded underwater from the rise in sea level. So how about Delaware or the Jersey shore, instead? Makes just SOOO much sense!
The hurricane scientist in Colorado who predicts the storm patterns pretty well does not agree with Al. But then, he doesn't have an academy award and lots of Hollywood money backing him because he's a scientist, not a politician. Will be interesting to watch the effect on those islands. Because of the pattern we are in with the storms, I would not buy on a barrier island or on some beaches right now, because you can see how the sand and dunes shift daily. I want something more stable under the foundation of what I am living in! |

havnt heard much about desertification in florida, but def other problems.
one of the biggest is water. if the sea levels rise too much, they will start to backwash into the florida aquifers. thats where we get our drinking water, so it would NOT be good. some of the maps show all the coasts (and everything south of lake okeechobee) underwater (youd get no money from the insurance industry or the govt, btw). other places do have it bad. it would flood the houston ship channel, releasing a toxic stew (unless the plants are closed first) in nyc, it would get into the subways, destroying them. still think 8 million would live in nyc with no subways? now, i have heard, and it gets more proof everyday, that the SW is in for some serious water shortage. will be interesting to see how that plays out. |

again, that depends.
if there is evidence that the seas are rising, dont think for a second the insurance companies are going to stick around. they will bolt in a heartbeat (many already are). and with no insurance, how will people afford homes/businesses? |

The world has been warming since the Ice Age!! Oh no, something new!!
It has been PROVEN by numerous studies that the world goes through cycles - it gets hotter and it gets cooler again. That is the cycle of life. Al Gore fans to the defense! He is crazy, you have go to admit it, though.I love how his "melting ice and the polar bears" scene was done. It is great COMPUTER ANIMATION. There is no such thing!! ![]() |
