Default Citrus County and Schools

Hi guys...

Currently I live up north and am looking to relocate to the South within the next few months, as short notice as that seems. Anyway, I am a certified Elementary Teacher and was wondering what the school systems in Citrus County were like? After reading a lot, it seems like Citrus County is a really nice area and a possibility. Do a lot of jobs exist? Is it Hurricane prone? How is cost of living? Sorry so many questions its just a big move for me and I'm sure others!!! It seems like Inverness is a nice area from what I have read. Could anyone give me any insight on the area? Any information is greatly appreciated!!!

Citrus County is a nice mostly retirement area. The schools are decent, but my experience is only with one kindergarten class. They call this the Nature Coast for a reason. The majority of the things to do here is Nature related. You can see more citrus county information on Citrus County Information I hope this helps you.

[SIZE=3][SIZE=3]I used to teach in another county in FL and did some research into Citrus county earlier this year. Be aware that you will pay a LOT more for health insurance in FL, especially if you are trying to get family coverage. The citrus county schools website says "School board pays $220 per month" towards insurance. The current rate for family coverage is $ 440 - $557 per month (the amount deducted from your paycheck per month). It might work out a lot better if you are single (check the website). Also, don't expect dental insurance like you probably had up north either.

The salary schedule for Citrus is one of the lowest in the Central FL area for sure. (again, it's posted on the website)

As for jobs, you asked if "a lot of jobs exist". The answer is NO. But a lot of layoffs probably do. Also, no raises and salary cuts/ insurance cost increases.

Try to find that local area's on-line newspaper and check it out. The Orlando Sentinel also has some info (there is a "Education News" tab under news on the left bar)

Well, Inverness is a nice place to live. Job possibilities are thin. Not hurricane prone. Cost of living is good. Many people (like I did) live there and commute to the office in Tampa where better wages are.

The Orlando Sentinel is a wonderful paper...if I'm starting a campfire, I always reach for one.
