Default Bay Town Trolley in Panama City??

Is it any good? I am planning to go to the beach for 3 nights and wanted to know if the bay town trolley would be good enough to get to and from the airport and maybe to a restaurant and shops? How much would a cab be from the airport to the beach?

I can't tell you anything about the trolley, but the airport isn't far from the beach at all. It depends where you are going on the beach. Even the new airport will be close!

Default Trolley info

I don't know if this is too late, but the trolley does indeed run from the airport to the beach--you will have to change at Gulf Coast Community College (and pay another fare--unless you buy an "all day" pass). I've taken the trolley from the airport, and it works (hopefully you don't have tons of baggage, since there's little room for it). The trolley will also run you by restaurants and such.

The big downside is, it only runs Monday through Friday (plus Saturdays in summer), and the hours are rather limited (they stop at about 6pm), and most trolleys only run once an hour at that. Still, it's the only game in town, and much cheaper than a taxi, particularly from the airport. Cabs will run around $30, and yes it's a flat fee.

I think the trolleys run until 8 pm. There has been a huge increase in ridership given the state of the economy. It's not the most convenient way to travel, especially on the beach, but it will get you around.

From the airport I would recommend using it, especially if you're hotel/condo is on Front Beach Road or Thomas Drive, since that's where the route runs. If you're out and about during your stay, though, you might want to call a beach taxi service... lots of times you can go from place to place for $10. It's better than waiting for an hour for the trolley.
Service on the beach seems to be a little slower (about an hour in between runs). Fare is in the $1.25 area. Or you can buy a monthly pass for $15 if you are going to be here for a few days.

Hope that helps!
