First -- I'm not a New Yorker.

Second -- we haven't left NJ yet.

Third -- you don't get to tell anyone where to live, or when to leave.

Fourth -- for someone who has issues with people from NY being rude, you display a lot of rudeness yourself. Nice job. If you act like this toward the New Yorkers you meet, no wonder they're rude right back. Turning the other cheek isn't practiced much here....

"Beware- Naples is the least friendly city in Florida."

I'm not sure it's the least friendliest - in my opinion - there are a lot of "unfriendly areas," but I definitely find SW FL to be part of the unfriendly areas. The friendliest areas are in the northern part of the state, as well as the "heartland" areas in the south-central part of the state, including Highlands County and surrounding area.

I visited the Ocala area twice in the summer (once to look at houses, and once to close). Everyone I spoke to -- hotel clerks, waiters and waitresses, salespeople in Lowe's, delivery people, the locksmith, garage door guy, pest control tech -- were so very friendly. Two salespeople in Lowe's bent over backwards to find appliances in their stockroom, and the delivery supervisor was the one who delivered it when there was a staffing mixup.

That's cool. I find that the further north in FL you go, the nicer and friendlier the people are.

How would you like it if people from the Northeast posted that all southerners were uneducated hicks who were the product if intermarriage? No? Well, it's the same thing that you're doing.

And what -- Yankee fans are supposed to change their team allegiance just because they move? You don't know much about sports fans, do you? It would be easier to change your blood type.

And a lot of the I love NY bumperstickers are an homage to 9/11 -- when the people of the NYC area suffered an indescribeable tragedy. You did hear about that day, didn't you? I did more than hear about it -- I lived it. My cousin worked in one of the towers, and we didn't know if he was alive for a couple of days -- and his brother, a NYC cop, worked on the evacuation and rescue efforts.
Kathy, you come down to Florida and ask the locals which transplants are the most unfriendly and unwilling to adapt to our culture and the answer will be the same its the New Yorkers. Honestly I'm not making this stuff up. Florida has plenty of transplants but the others try to adapt and root for the home team. I think your wrong regarding the I love New York bumper stickers. New Yorkers may be friendly to other New Yorkers but they sure do not want to associate with us southerners but yet they choose to move down here. Kathy I would never move to New York and try not to adapt to the New York culture! New Yorkers will not thank you when you hold the door for them and you can tell they are from New York because of the accent. I have tried to start as many conversations with New Yorkers as possible and I always get a cold shoulder. When I meet others from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, etc they will chat not as friendly as us natives but a lot friendlier than New Yorkers..... God bless the land of dixie and if you were wondering I have a masters degree and make over 6 figures. The educated southerners are proud as well! As the saying goes if you dont like dixie you are welcome to go back home to yankee land!

Kathy I refuse to have a New Yorker tell me my Confederate flag is wrong and should not fly..... well welcome to the south! I will not shut my mouth when I see all of the New Yorkers being rude and just being plain nasty to us local southerners. If you want to come on down by all means do so but try to adapt to our culture instead of saying you people are wrong and us New Yorkers do things the right way.... well go the heck back up north if you dont like it down here. You all yankees forget Florida is indeed in the south!

NO -- you're generalizing.

Florida has plenty of transplants but the others try to adapt and root for the home team.

Then they weren't loyal fans to begin with.

I was born a Yankee fan, and I will die a Yankee fan. I don't care how many pro baseball teams Florida has -- they are not and will never be mine.

I think your wrong regarding the I love New York bumper stickers. New Yorkers may be friendly to other New Yorkers but they sure do not want to associate with us southerners but yet they choose to move down here.

Again, you're wrong. I'm a Jersey Girl born and raised, and I got along quite well with the Ocalans I met when I was there. Then again, I'm basically a friendly person and like talking to people.

Kathy I would never move to New York and try not to adapt to the New York culture!

You could keep rooting for your favorite sports teams, though.

New Yorkers will not thank you when you hold the door for them

Really? I guess you and I have run into different New Yorkers. They thank me for holding doors all the time. Maybe it's your attitude?

and you can tell they are from New York because of the accent.

And you can tell I'm from Jersey because of mine. This is a bad thing? It was a conversation-starter when I was in Ocala in June and August.

I certainly hope you don't expect me to pick up a southern accent, too.

I have tried to start as many conversations with New Yorkers as possible and I always get a cold shoulder.

Again, maybe it's your attitude? If you come across in person the same way you're coming across in this thread, I don't blame them for not talking to you.

When I meet others from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, etc they will chat not as friendly as us natives but a lot friendlier than New Yorkers..... As so many people here have said -- Florida isn't the South.

And maybe it's your attitude -- change to be like us or go away -- that people from the Northeast don't like. And you tell us we're arrogant.

There you go -- you're still fighting the Civil War.

There's not much more I can say to you, then. Bye.

My two cents as a New Yorker who lives in Naples. I never intended to stay and and such I have no intention to put down roots here. I really do not care what is happening in Naples (sports teams or anything else). I suppose I feel about the same way a tourist, or even a snowbird might feel.

As far as the South or Confederate flags, this applies to Naples?????? This place is nothing but a tropical resort playground for rich snowbirds from November through March. It ain't the South. In 2 years living in Naples. I have met THREE native Floridians. Most of the people I have met in Naples are from MICHIGAN, not from New York. I-75 goes to the MIDWEST, not the East Coast.

Wow we agree on something Kathy (lol). South Florida does not have a southern culture however, the rest of the state does have a southern culture. all of the inland counties are southern even cities like Tampa have a southern culture. Did you know Tampa has the world's biggest Confederate flag flaying on I-75????? Kathy you really do not know much about Florida ,do ya??? Most transplants from other states besides the northeast would never tell a local floridian to move out of his home state. Unlike people from the northeast the other transplants understand our culture. Yes, Florida was in the civil war and we have huge confederate heritage in this state. IF you would bother to leave south florida you would see that Florida does indeed have a huge confederate heritage throughout the rest of the state! YOU ACTUALLY PROVED MY POINT!!!!!! YOU TELL ME (A NATIVE FLORIDIAN) TO CHANGE MY ATTITUDE OR LEAVE????? REALLY!!!! THIS IS MY STATE BORN AND RAISED AND YOU TELL ME TO CHANGE? THIS IS THE PROBEM MOST FLORIDIANS HAVE WITH PEOPLE FROM THE NORTHEAST. HOW DARE YOU TELL ME TO LEAVE BECAUSE I DONT ACCEPT YOUR NASTY YANKEE ATTITUDE. PLEASE STAY IN SOUTH FLORIDA BECAUSE YOU WOULD HAVE MAJOR ISSUES IF YOU MOVED ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA AND TOLD PEOPLE FLORIDA IS NOT A SOUTHERN STATE AND THAN YOU TELL THE NATIVE FLORIDIANS TO LEAVE AND MOVE OUT OF OUR OWN STATE. WOW PEOPLE FROM THE NORTHEAST ARE REALLY RUDE AND REFUSE TO ADAPT TO THE SOUTHERN WAYS...... NEXT TIME YOU ARE IN TAMPA JUST DRIVE DOWN I-75 AND YOU WILL SEE THE CONFEDERATE FLAG FLYING FROM 5 MILES DOWN THE ROAD! YOU TRY AND TELL THESE PEOPLE FROM TAMPA THAT THEY ARE NOT SOUTHERN AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. WOW YOU ARE REALLY IGNORANT TO SAY FLORIDA IS NOT SOUTHERN...... WE HAD PLENTY OF ANCESTORS DIE FIGHTING FOR THIS SOUTHERN STATE DURING THE CIVIL WAR! ANYWAY DRIVE INTO TAMPA AND LOOK AT THIS FLAG. YOU WILL ALSO SEE MANY MANY CONFEDERATE HERITAGE FLAGS FLYING ALL OVER THIS GREAT STATE OF FLORIDA WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SOUTHERN FLORIDA WHERE ITS FULL OF RUDE PEOPLE FROM THE NORTHEAST.

Kathy you are the arrogant one. you come to Florida and tell the natives to adapt to the culture of the northeast??? Well, we are not in the northeast Kathy! You moved into my state you should be the one who needs to change not us native floridians or other transplants who have adopted our culture. IF you dont like this southern state move back up north! You call me arrogant for not liking people like you who think I need to change to the ways of the northeast. Well Kathy I would agree with you if I lived in the northeast, but i dont!!!! I live in the southern state of florida so i will never adapt to the way of the northeast. really you are arrogant to even make this type of statement.
