"Not enough" would put it lightly. And south FL has some, but I wouldnt say it's on par with what you get by traveling northward a couple states.

Traffic becomes a NIGHTMARE. The beaches, restaurants, hotels, stores, are packed. March starts to slow down. By April it is gone. The businesses count their money to see how much was made for this "season". Then restaurants are empty. Many shut their doors or cut back their hours. Naples becomes a ghost town in summer.
It sounds like the mirror image of the Jersey Shore.

You will not be driving and see license plates from states half way across the country.
Go to The Wildwoods in South Jersey and you will see plenty of out-of-state plates -- and plenty from Canada.

And in NJ, the retirement communities are fairly close to the Shore, if not actually at the Shore.

I swore then I'd retire to a warmer clime, and I haven't changed my mind in the intervening 40 years.

on the shores of Long Island too. Sayville is very nice area with a few retirement communities, but I don't care to live on the shore, or near a beach. I lived near the beach there. I live near the beach here. It doesn't matter to me because I don't go. I think I have had enough of living near beaches I never to go.

I guess all the beach goers went to the Jersey Shore, not Jones or the Hamptons. I never really noticed an increase in out of state cars on the roads during the summer. I suppose that is good thing for people who live there.

of coming back to Florida after 36 years. I swore I would never come back here. You just never know what will happen in life.

The longer I am in Florida, the more I long for COLD. I sit and watch Ice Road Truckers, Deadliest Catch, and just DROOL. Maybe I will retire to Alaska or Minnesota. Just call me the Polar Bear.

Can I change my name to that? I really like it.

The Jersey Shore is a lot easier to get to -- and a shorter drive, as well as being cheaper.

I will happily give you all of our cold winters. Hell, this week, it's been in the 50s in the mornings! You shouldn't need a jacket on June 17th!

I hope it STAYS like that. Sorry. I usually go back to visit in the Fall and Winter, but my daughter is getting married in July. Oh well, it HAS to be cooler there than here. The heat index reached 105 today.

We here in San Diego are also having some chilly weather. Well, the night time temps at least... Mid to high 60's with dewpoints holding at 57 degrees. The other night the dewpoint was 61 degrees and that little bit made all the difference. It felt almost balmy! LOL! Man am I missing the SoFLo humidity!
