Palm Beach (fly into West Palm Beach) is a very nice area...beautiful beach, beautiful ocean color, tiny roads surrounded my mansions, very peaceful, mostly residential. If you have seen the movie Heartbreakers the hotel they stayed in was in Palm Beach (The Breakers Palm Beach). There are cheaper options, many b&b's and if you want shopping, nightlife, restaurants West Palm Beach is right across the bridge. It's like entering into a completely different atmosphere. Check it out, I always thought of Palm Beach as a very romantic area that isn't in the middle of nowhere.
Great suggestions! Checking out Destin, Clearwater area, Grayton Beach, and Palm Beach (which I always thought was party central but if it's not, I'll definitely look into it!).

Good point, NOBODY goes to the Keys for the beaches...
If it's nice beaches they want, they should be looking on the west coast of Florida and the Panhandle.
The Keys are a few miles from a coral reef and that naturally keeps beaches from forming. There are only one or two (very small) natural beaches in the Keys. The rest are sand brought in by the resorts. I love the Keys, but this is not the place to come if you are expecting miles and miles of beaches. This is more of a snorkeling/diving place.
