Citrus County, FL (Homosassa Springs)?
To vacation or live there, can anyone give me any insight?
Thanks in advance!

I don't think it's much of a vacation hot-spot. I lived in Floral City for 5 years. Citrus County is slow paced, very nice people, few jobs, low cost of living. Lots of horses and the County fair is considered a major event.

I agree with the above and would like to add that it is beautiful there. When I was doing research for our new hometown, I found the area lovely and affordable, but somewhat remote. Except for Sugarmill Woods, there wasn't much there. Nothing was walkable, you have to drive for groceries, shopping, doctors, entertainment, etc. and people I talked to indicated that they loved it at first, but after a few years they felt stuck because they couldn't afford to move, the tight restrictions on property upkeep seemed to be a burden, the drives to Tampa were tiresome, and the lack of cultural events nearby got old. I felt it was too far away from a major airport as well. If you are a person who just likes to hang out at home and you don't mind driving to get basically everywhere this would be the place for you, but it wasn't a good fit for us. I'd suggest you visit and do your research carefully before you buy anything anywhere. HOA fees, CDD's, community restrictions, taxes, insurance, etc. can be a deal breaker. BEST WISHES!

I live in Hernando about 5 miles north of Inverness, seasonally and I love Citrus County. True you have to drive a litle far for most things, but that's a positive....it's not inundated with red lights and traffic like the larger metro areas, you'll have some breathing room.

It isn't as built up as a lot of other palces in Florida, but agreed with the eprson who said it's not much of a vacation hot spot. I guess it depends on what type of vacation you want. It's certainly still "old Florida" in most of the area around there.

Oh but I disagree that is is not a vacation spot. We are headed there this weekend for an out of town vacation. Homosassa Springs State Park and Crystal River are absolute jewels.
And for a fisherman it's paradise on earth. Did you know that the world's record largest tarpon was caught there?
If you need "artificial" vacations that include Disney attractions and shopping malls, look elsewhere. If you love nature, pure blue freshwater springs and manatees, then go. See ya there

Like I said, a vacation "hot spot." For those who want a natural experience, it's a good choice. Not everyone likes the idea of getting bit up by mosquitoes while sitting in a boat castching fish all day. My idea of an ideal vacation is a luxury inn in the mountains. To each their own.

Welllll....I am a Disney nut, yes - but thought for our next vacation in Florida, we could see the more natural side of things (thinking specifically about the manatees and springs).
Thanks again everyone!
