Default Local news media coverage of thunderstorms

Yesterday they were warning that it was "very dangerous" outside that afternoon.

Today "we can't let our guard down"

These storms happen almost every day, shouldn't people be used to it by now?

Ugh. For real. I had on one of the local channels as I was getting ready for work and they had two of their meterologists on there geeking out incredibly over all sorts of weather related terms I have never heard before and how people should stay home indoors this morning and not go to work. I mean, I am talking Tampa here. Home of the worst thunderstorms during the summer and anyone here longer than 5 minutes should know that.

What next, are they going to warn of impending heat and humidty and order everyone to take cover at MacDill for safety?

There's a difference between normal every day thunderstorms and the ones we got yesterday. It's possible the area you were in didn't get bad ones, where I was the thunder and lightning was very dangerous and the wind might have hit hurricane force.

every single day in florida from late may til the end of october has the potential for extreme and life threatening weather conditions. the media feels the need to remind the many vagrants and transients of this fact, guess its better than reporting on the latest homocide, robbery or child abduction

I think it was a slow news day.
Things will pick up once hurricane season starts to peak.

Orlando has some of the worst newscasts in the country, they are terrible! Just like most other media outlets here.
