We are planning to move to a Canal home in Central Merritt Island. I have been there a few times and looked at the crime statistics and I'm a little nervous now. Is the crime bad in Merritt Island or are the statistics old? Also, I have kids and the schools look great but is this a good place to raise kids or are they surrounded by tattoo parlors and bars? Help! My feet are getting cold about this move. Any information from that area would be helpful.

We're in Merritt Island and I've only heard rumors about crime. A few folks have told me that they do this to keep folks from moving here. Ha, not sure about that.

MI is very family friendly. Seems like the whole town goes to the high school football games, etc. There are social nights (Wednesdays) at several of the churches for teens.
