You might not be able to jet ski in western NC, but you can't make snow men or snow ski or sled or have snow fights...in Florida
You can get almost everything in NC short of ocean stuff. There is certainly a ton of fishing, places for swimming, and you can definitely "weekend" at the beach. I have to say, while I seem to be doing the beach thing more often the last year or so, for the 25 or so years prior to that, I hardly ever went. Even though I was mere minutes away.
In Florida, starting about now when the temps are hitting the mid to upper 80's, our outside fun ends. We spent more time at the beach during the winter months than we ever do during summer. Just too damn hot.
I personally think our kids are missing out on a lot of winter fun living down here. And they certainly wouldn't miss out on summer fun in the mountains. Lots of stuff to do up there too. My opinion of course...

We visited our friends in Boone NC when they first moved there. Beautiful area and yes tons of fishing, hunting etc if that is what you like.
They liked that part but missed the year around warm temps, the ocean and beaches.
If your not a Florida person like you said then the western part of NC might fit you. Since you want to be close to the Smokies personally I do not like the eastern part of Tenn at all.
Have you ever driven down the Blue Ridge Parkway?

Yep, on every vacation we've taken for the last couple years. We are so hooked on the mountains that we haven't considered one vacation that did not include the BRP. Last trip was October for peak leaf season. We were literally stunned at the awesome beauty. I had forgotten that anything could be that beautiful.
We planned on going again next month, but our vacation vehicle went boom. So it's going to have to wait until later in the year. While last time was a new tent campground (most along the parkway) every day, this time we have planned to stay half the trip at Mt Pisgah campground on the parkway, and then maybe the next half in eastern Smoky Mountains. Can't remember the name off hand, but the one with all the elk nearby. We visited there for a day last time around, but didn't stay as the campground was full.
Yeah, the parkway. I could spend the rest of my life a few miles from anywhere up and down the BRP.

We have taken many trips either up the BRP or down it. From start to finish.
Are you talking about Banner Elk??
Have you ever gone off the parkway and down into the towns? Maybe check out the caverns also.
Last trip we saw a ton of bears in the road. What a site.
We usually do not get to see bears on all the trips down the parkway.
We enjoy stopping and walking down to the streams also.

It is easy to point everything at the rednecks because it is ok to say it. But if anyone of us would mention the complete opposite group of a redneck it would not be right.
All of these people and their parents are a drain on our society, if any parent allows their child to drop out of HS then they are also a drop out as they just born us another generation of losers who will never contribute to America.
All HS dropouts should be forced to go into the military, go through double boot camp, forced to learn something and become decent men and women who then will see they need to be a part of our society, since mom and dad failed at it, maybe the military can show them the way.

How about people who dropped out in 12th grade, got thier GED 2 weeks after they signed out of school, went to college a month later ended up with a 3.7 GPA, then graduated... Ya, I'm one of those idiot drop outs. I seem to have been thrown into that catagory.... Military? No I would rather live, thank you. By the way my father is a college professor with a doctorate, far from a loser. My mother headed her department in Merril Lynch back in the 80's and 90's when they were a normal company. Far from a loser. My brother also dropped out, and now makes $75K at the Honda dealer he helps run. Ya another loser... Nice generalization PAL....

Re read it again.
You finished your school and went onto college. The post was about those people who NEVER bother to finish school and never again do anything to better themselves.
Not what you did PAL. Re read it.
If a 30 year old who dropped out of school and never got his GED or tried and sits around whining about jobs because they cannot make any money, now that is a LOSER.
Many people who drop out do something to better their lives, obtain a skill or something.
I am talking those who do nothing to better their lives, are dropouts and expect a 15.00 an hour job just because they showed up for work.
Chris you did something to better yourself, I did not put you in this category. I do not see you whining about jobs, not any money, its everyone elses fault I am poor etc. No, you have a decent job offer and get to move back to Florida, hardly what I call a loser.

Thanks for clarifying. It hit a nerve with me. I saw "ALL HS dropouts" at the beginning of the post.
I knew when I walked out of that school because I could not deal with another day of it, I made myself better. I was for sure not going to sit around like a bum.
Now we can be "Pals"....lol.

Why on earth would he want to move to Ma?
He has ended up in Florida twice now, why cant you understand that people DO LIKE FLORIDA.
He probably had other choices and chose Florida, to bad you hated it while millions of other love it.
If he did NOT LIKE FLORIDA he would not have accepted a job there I am sure.
ACCEPT IT Daily, ACCEPT the fact that people do like Florida and you could not handle it there.
