So if you're tired of sitting in a parking lot on 41 between hillview & clark, go on over to the east coast & play in the real traffic.

huh??????????????????????

I did not read this entire thread.

Every time I see this thread up on top, my first thought is:

If you can drive in NYC, then you can drive anywhere!
I do not know the former NYC population percentage in Florida but we tend to drive like we are back home.

I'll tell you who the worst drivers are. It's the "other guys". If everyone would just pay attention to what they were doing, it would be a much safer place to drive and we wouldn't have an average of 10 fatalities every day.

As far as driving in other parts of the country, I have driven in almost every state on the east side of the country. Everyone behaves for the most part until they get to Florida. I'm a law enforcement officer in this state. I see terrible driving every day. When I cross the state line, the driving seems to change. I actually decided to observe driving habits on a trip to the northeast and make a "game" out of it. For the few short hours I was in Florida, I could have written at least 15 tickets. Once I got out of Florida, I only saw 4 violations that I would have written. 15 violations in 150 miles of Florida roadways and 4 violations in 1200 miles of non Florida roadways.

On the return trip, I was in Georgia about 15 miles north of Florida. A guy on a motorcycle entered the interstate and pulled in behind me. He followed me all the way to the Florida state line at 70 miles an hour. He wasn't tailgating, he wasn't in and out of traffic, he was just driving like a normal person should drive. Literally, as the front of his bike crossed the Florida state line, he hammered the accelerator and took off at least 110 mph and weaved through traffic like a fool.

Only in Florida (and maybe California!)

Wow - that is an amazing observation - a little frightening, but amazing all the same.

At least they were passing you on the left. I'm really surprised that you didn't encounter all of the left lane hogs going 50 MPH in the HOV lane. 595 is fast but 95 usually has a serious left lane issue that makes it hard to exceed the speed limit of 65.

Its funny that you mention that. I have a story, somewhat similar to that one. Coming back from Asheville NC and going back to Orlando. We were in NC still, getting into SC. All of a sudden, traffic comes to a stop on the interstate. It was a wreck. We were in SC and here's 3 cars in a fender bender. Couldnt really tell who was at fault and all that, but 2 of the 3 plates were from FL. Headed down the interstate some more, kid you not, another wreck. 2 cars. Both had FL plates. In all, I saw 3 wrecks (fender benders luckily - didnt see anything serious) and if there were 8 total cars involved in these wrecks, 7 of them were from FL. Kid you not.

I believe you! On that same trip I was mentioning earlier, I saw three crashes in Florida and only 1 crash in the other 8 states I traveled through.

Seems like most drivers in Florida are in too much of a hurry to get "nowhere". A factor which I think adds to the flagrant disregard for red lights and stop signs.
