Honestly I am very disappointed with Publix. It WAS a good supermarket but has now gone third world. All the stores were known for their clean terazzo floors, flashy neon signs, clean well stocked shelves and convenient rotary checkouts. Lately Publix stores seem like warehouses, nothing but a steel truss roof with warehouse lights, cheap vinyl tile floors with dirt around every product display. There's also a lot of rotten fruit in the produce section and often bags of rice with bugs, and flies buzzing around the store. The prices are even more scary! The employees often do not speak English, especially at the one on Coral Way and the palmetto.
As for Wild Oats/Whole Foods it often smells like a garbage can. It is amazing, that people actually pay those high prices for that stuff. If I want to spend tons of money I will just drive to Norman Bros.

Hi there
If you are dissapointed with your publix store/ location, please voice your opinion directly to them (either at the store itself, or write an e-mail directly to headquarters in lakeland/ fl!)
I really mean that, because you as a customer, have such a strong impact and voice in our operation!
You are the reason, why publix exists, and why us employees have jobs!!! Thank you!

I was just doing a bit of reading on the downsides of being employed for Disney. Looks like they're not alone.
Speaking of low wages~it appears that Publix will now be lowering their pay scale by 50 cents per hour. This will affect new employees and also employees who have hit the top of the former pay scale. They will lose 50 cents per hour for wages. HMMM, thought wages normally went up. It's just strange since it's often been posted that Publix is a very good place for general employment. They want to remain competitive so of course the employees will get the bad end of the deal. One of the areas mentioned is South Florida so I'm not sure if it'll affect Orlando or not.

That is despicaple!!
You know who the local wage-setter is in Central Florida: DISNEY!
Now it is VERY unusual for this to happen at Publix. Publix actually has benefits for employees, including buying their stock (they are a privately traded company and they are VERY profitable - they stock is gold).
I have a friend who works at Publix. I will ask her and let y'all know.
But just because Publix is lowering wages, it does not excuse Disney from their despicable practices. The same goes for Walmart.

Why hasn't some one done some research before everyone passes judgement. Publix is not cutting wages for everyone by any means. Just google Publix and wages and gets some facts. I happen to love this store and the people that work in them are about the best in the business, polite, helpful and well informed for the most part. I judge all other stores on the experiences I have had at Publix. Better yet email Publix, they will return your emails. No I do not have any stock or work for Publix.

I always had good experiences at the Publix in Boca. Especially the huge empty one they built on Rte 441. What a beautiful store. By now there are probably alot more subdivisions which filled in that area. Lol- how naive I was when I first moved to Florida and asked an employee where the sauerkraut was he looked at me like I was speaking in tongues!!
Only went there once-Walmart- though- in Coral Springs- dirty floors- about 50 customers on one register line-two cashiers (with 30 empty stations) what a horrible place. It is probably even worse now.

I AM employed with Publix for several years. Yes, we are non-union, which, in my eyes, is a GOOD thing. I have worked up north for union and non-union supermarkets. And, guess what? The non-union supermarket chain is STILL in business right now as we speak!! (Look at the history of union supermarket chains, and,how many went "under", and opened up under different names...but I'm not even going there right now)
We, at publix, did not get notified of pay scale DECREASE, but actually a pay INCREASE, which affects also the bonuses and pushes them higher as well! And that's FACT!!
Everything is based on evaluation and performance, conduct and experience etc. So, if there is an individual lacking it's ability to be punctual (as an example), yes, they CAN take money/ pay away. (I think, that's pretty darn fair!!!) That, however, is being determined at the 6 months interval evaluation period.
Also, new hired employees start up already way above minimum pay scale, and advance rapidly. AGAIN...ONLY WITH GOOD PERFORMANCE!!!!)
Hiknapster had a bad experience, and that's ok as a lesson learned. The retail supermarket bit is not for everyone(Sorry, hiks ...still love ya...lol)
But, there are unqualified managers everywhere, which shouldn't be in the position they are in, because they bull**** their way to the top, and "slip through the cracks".
I'm not making excuses, but, it does happen...even at publix.
But, one post tremendously amused me to no end....*smells like Winn Dixie??????* (Quote)
LOL!!!!!!!!!!! OMG...you can't be serious!!!!
Well, you know what? I treat my customers like GOLD, even though, I am being mistreated by customers every single week! But, the GOOD customers make up for it....
Also, it's funny that people forget what publix does for the community......its HUGE!
And, we are NOT only talking about donations here, because it goes way above and beyond that!
And, people cheer when a publix builds a store nearby. Why? It pushes the property value up (and that's FACT as well!)
Also, publix does NOT hire illegal immigrants. Wal-Mart got in trouble so many, many times already! (If it's not here in FL, it's in CA....seems like they get busted all the time)
Win Dixie has their work cut out, to get out of bancruptcy. As a matter of fact, they are currently in the process of remodeling their remaining stores, restructure, based on the principles of publix!!!! So, that makes me feel pretty good as far as job security goes.
Also, some long time employees retire as multi millionars thanks to publix stocks (not a public exchange), which are doing FANTASTIC!
So, all in all, NO, I haven't heard of ANY pay cuts, except, if you lack at your job and in your job class. You are being paid, what you are worth, and that sounds pretty reasonable to me!
Otherwise, I wouldn't be here working for them, trust me.

THANK YOU! I drive 12 miles out of my way to shop at Publix - this is a clean beautiful store, with all kinds of great choices of merchandise, happy and friendly employees, and they happily give away free samples as well as their own little in-store cook/demonstrator who makes sample mini-meals. And it is actually CHEAPER here than Sweetbay, the main grocer competitor. I have been clamoring for YEARS for them to build a store in my area, and now I have heard that they plan to do just that, and yes - it definitely does raise values in the area!
I have even heard employees who work for Ingles (big grocer in NC) say that Publix is the best grocery they have ever seen!
So, while I don't doubt that there are some folks who have had a negative experience working or shopping here, overall it beats any others hands down.
I love my Publix! (great wine selection here, too, and they run great sales! lol)

I don't believe anyone has said that the employees are not friendly or that wages are being cut for EVERYONE employed there.

Yup, you already posted that on another thread. If you'll notice, I apologized for not seeing the date (even though it's small ). I again will thank you for catching it, and making things seem a bit better since the wages are not going down.
