Or so the newspapers in North Carolina claim:

Financial chill? Try blaming Florida. - CharlotteObserver.com (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/business/story/830524.html?q=florida - broken link)
North Carolina blames its economic woes on its ties to Florida - St. Petersburg Times

Can't say I've got much in the way of sympathy for out of state companies who will cheerfully ride the economic gravy train and ship every penny of profit back out of the state when times are good and then who whine when they can't keep moving the profits back to Charlotte or Raleigh during a downturn.

Yeah, let me break out the violins.....

They hate us when times are good and we are spending money in their state and they hate us now when times are bad and their businesses are suffering. Time to pay the piper.

Oh boo hoo. The "high paying jobs" touted in North Carolina centered around the finance and mortgage industry were every bit as speculative and on shoddy ground as the "real estate" and construction industry here. Banks anywhere are one VERY important piece of the housing bubble puzzle. Home speculation and real estate boom in Florida could not have happened without NC banks giving money to any twit that could fog a mirror.

In many cases, it's not even so much demand for housing driving up prices, but was actually the toxic mortgage product itself driving demand of homes (buy now, take out cash at closing!)

Out of the Charlotte Observer??? Everyone in Charlotte is from NY (many by way of FL) anyhow!!! They are indirectly complaining about themselves!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People in FL are losing their jobs, many are service based (FL's foundation), unlike Charlotte's. With so many HQ's based in NC (Lowe's for example), stores in FL are gonna take a hit when people are outta work, spending less money, etc... which affects Lowe's (for example) performance.

If we were directly affected to the GM's and Ford's like Detroit is, the same thing would occur. Except FL is tied to NC especially in reference to real estate (as detailed in the article, "halfbacks" are still in FL waiting to move to NC/TN, but cant until the sell their house in Boca Raton or wherever).

Then what was the deal with all those commercials running all the time to come to the Carolinas? Most were run by the states themselves. They wanted people who were selling their over priced Florida homes to come up there and invest it. I think it was "Be careful what you wish for".

I was in NY the last two weeks. They are not running ads for North Carolina. They are running ads for SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.

Need those tourist/snowbird $'s I suppose. NOT doing my part to help them though.

Actually Charlotte has more people from NJ than NY. But see that is the NC way...blame everyone else for their problems. See why I left there?
And trust me FLorida plates are getting quite common here. I wonder what they think once they realize just exactly where it is they landed.

My neighbor (elderly) who lives across from me cries a lot. She misses her friends, she has nothing to do. And that's true. There's nothing for seniors around here...nothing.
