If you don't like Miami, I think you'd like Homestead/Florida City less. Poorer population, high crime, nowhere but Miami to go to for entertainment.

Thank you for all the thoughts/opinions....I can handle "knowing" there are snakes but I just don't want them in my house. I know critters are a part of life.
As far as cities go we are looking for modest size (below 100K people) with decent schools and a good friendly community on/super close to the beach. We are thinking of driving into Sarasota but wanted opinions on nice towns around the Western Coast of Florida. Sorry for the confusion I am from the West Coast and we only have one coast. LOL! I over-looked the fact that I didn't specify the Western side of Florida.

I don't know who you polled but nothing could be further from the truth when it comes to most of North Carolina and the people who have relocated there.

That said, I love both my states: North Carolina and Florida. I split my time between the two.
