Sorry, but if you want "Southern Conservative Livin'" there are plenty of places in North Florida to run to where you'll trade abject ghetto poverty of South Florida for abject backwoods poverty. Your choice.
and that's why I'm in JAX, I'll take backwoods types anyday over what you have down there

you know I've heard the area called that before, it really isn't an insult to people here in fact the locals revel in the fact that they are more true to their southern roots than the yankee infested sfla.
There's nothing wrong with their southern pride, as long as you respect their ways and don't try to impose your values on them anyone from up north will get on fine up here in S. Georgia.
Can you say the same for New York South?

To me SFla is just more NY and if I wanted NY I would move to NY.
I can't picture living with NYers, many of them are miserable up there and they don't magically change their stripes when they take up residence in FLA.

And I revel in the fact that South Florida is NOT a part of the South and its long glorious history of..... um..... sweat tea.... and..... some decent architecture (and that OTHER thing we won't mention).

Anyplace that has more pride in its past than its present or future is not somewhere I want to be. Southern pride USUALLY = pride in being rebellious traitors to the Union in the mid-1800s.

Not just New Yorkers. New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Massachusettes sent many "colonists" down to South Florida. It makes for an interesting mix of people After all, the Northeast Atlantic states, along with the West, are the most prosperous areas in the country with generally much better social indicator scores (less divorces, murder, abortions, etc.) than the South..... so..... the loud in-your-face New Yorkers must be doing something right.

O.K. this is a new one on me. Since Iv'e been here my whole life Iv'e pretty much seen the Northeastern people turn into the South New Yorker. Let's start with the beach. I hear people all the time saying how they will love to sit at the beach, well unless you have a hard body and are 25 years old reality will set in fast. For guys, better buy that big sports car, it's like a magnet for the free ride girls in South Florida ( and they will milk you for every nickel they can get ). Ladys, when you find out you don't look as good in that bikini as you thought, intimidation sets in, suddenly the beach isn't that appealing anymore. If you look at the divorce rate in South Florida guess whos getting divorced? Look at the brochures and read the adds, ever notice theres a 60 something guy with a 30 something girl? Coincidence? I think not. Three of the best businesses to be in is weight loss centers, substance abuse centers and divorce lawyers "untill recently where real estate attorneys seem to be in the lead ". So don't pat yourself on the back just yet.

Guys, please get back on topic. Lets not turn this into another "north vs south" thread.

I have lived on LI (an island with BEACHES) for over 20 years. I have been to the beach here maybe 4 times. I have no intention of going to the beach in Florida. I am NOT a beach person. Changing my location doesn't change that.

We are looking to buy a bigger condo in Florida. We don't even want a POOL. Get the picture?

We didn't/aren't moving to Florida for the "lifestyle". It is simply a matter of JOBS.

PS. As far as weight control, I weighed 98 lbs in my 20s. Two children and 20+ years later, I now weigh 105 lbs (size 0/1). Don't need weight control either. We will be married 33 years this August. It's all about GENES. Excuse me while I go have my after dinner coffee and CAKE.
