Sorry, but if you want "Southern Conservative Livin'" there are plenty of places in North Florida to run to where you'll trade abject ghetto poverty of South Florida for abject backwoods poverty. Your choice.
I think you need to look up the definition of character before you start using it in discussions.
Have you ever actually been anyplace else in Florida?
Try visiting St.Augustine, Cedar Key, The Everglades.
There is more to Florida than Havana North.

For guys, better buy that big sports car, it's like a magnet for the free ride girls in South Florida ( and they will milk you for every nickel they can get ). Ladys, when you find out you don't look as good in that bikini as you thought, intimidation sets in, suddenly the beach isn't that appealing anymore. If you look at the divorce rate in South Florida guess whos getting divorced? Look at the brochures and read the adds, ever notice theres a 60 something guy with a 30 something girl? Coincidence? I think not. Three of the best businesses to be in is weight loss centers, substance abuse centers and divorce lawyers "untill recently where real estate attorneys seem to be in the lead ". So don't pat yourself on the back just yet.
This is the truth! its funny but true.

Not only have I LIVED in both North and South Florida, I have a brother who goes to boarding school in St. Augustine. It's nice there, yes. But St. Augustine is NOT what the world thinks about when it thinks "Florida." I'm sorry to burst your bubble. I actually *like* some of what North Florida has to offer, but it's not for everyone, and its "cultural offerings" and sense of cosmopolitanism are certainly not one of its selling points.

Oh, and the Everglades are IN South Florida.

But whatever. Unfortunately, this post will probably get deleted for being "off topic" again while magically all the others seem to stay!!

the very same can be said for SFLA, it's not for everyone, not everyone celebrates the diversity, the fact that english is a second language, the traffic, the crime and all the other ills that urbanization brings.
there's plenty of culture here up north and the pace of life is much more enjoyable for some.
You need to remember one thing , one size does not fit all. what you call cosmopolitian I call overcrowded and decaying

Well what you originally said was that Dade, Broward and Palm Beach were the areas that gave Florida it's character. I guess we will tell every other county in the state to close the hotels and restaurants since as you say it is not what the world thinks about when they think of Florida.
I guess Disney and Busch Gardens will just close their doors.

I am well aware that The Everglades are in S Florida as I am also aware of the fact there is alot to the State of Florida and it does not revolve around South Beach.

You do have me confused on the bursting my bubble statement though.

Default It's getting better

I know that everyone is getting depressed with the real estate market, but if you can hold on a little longer things are gonna get better.

Has your realtor ever showed you what your MLS looks like? I know that when I'm looking through the MLS I'm looking for pictures of properties that I'm interested in showing to my customers. If the pictures are of poor quality or there are'nt enough of them I will go onto the next listing and that one will be pushed aside.

Also, Most home buyers come from out of state. Where is your realtor advertising your property? Try to get your realtor to maybe advertise in your old home town, or a city outside the state of Florida, or a different part of Florida. Even over seas.

Hopefully, when the new property tax cuts happen, more people will want to move to this area and take advantage of it.

Hang tight

Jeanne

Yay! We have an interested buyer from Connecticut! Her friends live in our area and will be coming to check out our house on Friday. It's the first bite we've had! She is a little worried about the property taxes here in FL, but she pays a lot in CT, so it isn't really much of an issue.

She asked my realtor what our taxes are, but it wouldn't really be relative since we bought when the prices were much lower, 7 years ago.

I hope this won't deter her from buying. She's good with the price and she already accepted a job offer so has to move here anyway. She's been doing her research and found our house online through our the local ad we posted a few weeks ago.

Wish me luck!

Default One of the problems...

I'm learning is that many agents ARE NOT answering their phones! It's as simple as that! We've heard several of these complaints and have experienced them ourselves. What is up with that? A potential buyer is at the front door w/a sales agent and listing agent does not answer the phone!

Here's another good one: the "agent" we expired w/a week ago has yet to get her lockbox off our door and her sign out of the yard (yes, it's out of the ground, set aside) even though she said she placed an order to have the sign picked up two weeks ago and even after several calls were made to her. She does not answer her phone and when she does it is AirHead City.

There must be something a seller can do about this behavior as it is widespread and is causing much heartache and expense. So check and see what your agent is doing or not doing behind the scenes. We shouldn't have to as that's why we hired them. To sell the property not cost us a sale. Sheesh!!
