The job situation down here is pretty lousy, but if you really wants to make it work, there are things you can do to improve your odds of making it donw here.
Punta Gorda has a huge elderly population. I'd look into getting a CNA license in New Jersey, and then transfering the license down here when you move. It's hard work, and the pay isn't great, but there will alwas be a demand for CNAs within that population group, and if you can hook up with a full time job at an assisted living facility or hospital, at least you'll probably have health insurance, and you might be able to work your way into a better paying allied health job over time.
Same goes for other paraprofessional allied health jobs. Health care is like Florida's only steady employment sector right now.

You have time to do some credit repair and get your credit scores up before you move.
Visit the area you want to move to before you actually rent. And make sure you visit the home you are renting before signing anything.

Do a rent to own with an open clause that if you find out you do not like it down here you can get out of it and go back. Yes Sunny-days 90 is right LOOK at what you re moving into before you sign anything at all.

Yes were going down there in November or December for 1 week we spent some time in Naples last December and loved it we like the west coast feel not to mention we all love to fish. But like I said the work is lined up for me and Sarah should not have to wait that long she already had contact with a few hospitals
