Florida as I'm sure you're aware, has a much different hot than California. It gets extremely muggy, especially in the Summer, and most of use stay inside, swim, or go out for quick tans unless you want your skin coming off in chunks from the intense sun.

Oh and get used to squinting. It's your only method of vision during Summer.

I am very happy on seabreeze blvd. I live in a high-rise luxury apartment with amazing views of the intracostal and ocean. I walk up seabreeze and it is very nice, lots of businesses like jewlrey shops, dress shops, pet care, hair salons, several restaurants/bars, wachovia bank, walgreens etc. The beach is one block further.

There are good parts of daytona and there are bad parts. In my opinion, the mainland side has a lot of old homes which make the area look seedy. There are low rents which attract some crime. On the beach side where I live, there is a 5 block area that is similar. If you go a mile north of seabreeze blvd, the homes are very nice and it looks like your typical middle class family neighborhood. If you go around 3 miles south of daytona near north daytona beach shores, it is also very nice with homes owned by professionals, lawyers etc. The area in between is very charming but has some low rent homes which attract some riff-raff. I would say the area is pretty safe compared to downtwon atlanta or nashville which i left cause of the crime and non-stop homeless beggers.
If you go to google maps and enter 101 seabreeze blvd zip code 32118 and pull up a satellite map you can zoom in and see the area and the types of homes that are there.

Default Ormond-By-the-Sea and the Seabreeze area of Daytona

Thanks for all you help. I like humidity. California is too dry for me. I also appreciate your input about Seabreeze. I've always liked that area but hesitated because Daytona has such a bad reputation.

Did you know that the richest man in the world, john d. rockefeller, hired a whole team of experts to search the usa for the most ideal place to live and they picked ormond beach. He then built his winter home there.

I have traveled all over the east coast and there are "seedy" areas in every city. In fact, harlem is next to the most expensive zip code in america, central park west.

Generally people who focus only on the bad areas and talk bad about a place do so to feel better about themselves.

I would focus on the area from seabreeze blvd north to ormond, it is very nice and is full of middle class families and well kept yards.
